Can you still be christian if you reject Paul's teachings?

I had a homosexual tell me that Paul corrupted the teachings of Jesus by adding so much to it (like a Pharisee might). He stated, "What did Jesus say about homosexuality? Absolutely nothing!" In other words, Jesus didn't condemn it. That was Paul adding to the Gospel. *Sigh*

    "Graduating" from the NIV

"ASK NOT what your country can do for you ..." Sounds to me that President John F. Kennedy would have appreciated reading the ESV. Why not say, "DON'T ASK?" ;)

    "Graduating" from the NIV

I was just speaking with another friend of mine. He's Presbyterian (PCA). I discovered that he now uses the ESV. (He previously used the NKJV.) In any case, he informed me that the ESV is, basically, the "official" Bible translation of the PCA. I thought that was interesting. And I wanted to...

    "Graduating" from the NIV

Update: I've been spending time in the ESV, and I have to admit: I'm impressed. I had always heard that the ESV was very much a "word for word" type of Bible translation. I assumed it was similar to the NASB, and I was a little hesitant to use it, because of its ties to the RSV. I've been...

    "Graduating" from the NIV

I can certainly picture that happening. I recently visited a friend's church. (He attends a Church of Christ.) The Minister was preaching from the NASB. He read an extended passage from the Book of Ephesians. And many of us were having difficulty following along (in our minds). People were...

Which Canon of the Bible do you believe in?

The reason I brought up the Book of Jude is because that reference to 1 Enoch (?) kind of throws me off.

    "Graduating" from the NIV

I take it the ESV is considered more "readable" than the NASB?

    "Graduating" from the NIV

Returning to the subject of the more "word for word" Bible translations, I'm trying to understand the reason behind the popularity of the ESV. I must be missing something, because I really don't understand why it's been embraced by so many Bible readers. I suppose I need to spend more time...

    "Graduating" from the NIV

For whatever reason, in regard to the more "word for word" Bible translations, I find myself favoring the NASB95 over the ESV. I think, perhaps, because I've never been one to use the KJV. What I mean to say is: I've often read that the ESV's popularity is due, in large part, to its similarities...

Which Canon of the Bible do you believe in?

Are there still doubts among Bible scholars (or even layman) regarding whether the Book of Jude ought to have been included in the Canon?

    "Graduating" from the NIV

I guess there's no reason why I shouldn't continue to use the NIV as my preferred translation. I think what's happened is that I've allowed all the NIV naysayers get in my head. The ones who post videos on YouTube, for example, stating that one should avoid using "thought for thought" Bible...

    "Graduating" from the NIV

Hmmmm ... Perhaps this is a regional thing. The Baptist Church I attend (along with the Baptist Churches I've visited in the area) all use the NIV. My pastor uses the NIV (along with nearly every church member I've spoken to). The Sunday School materials use the CSB (which a few of the members...

    "Graduating" from the NIV

If someone is ready to choose a more "word for word" Bible translation (after having read the NIV for a number of years) which translation would you steer them toward,if asked your opinion?

    More onlyisms

And the KJV only crowd tends to adversely affect the image of those who are KJV preferred (who I greatly respect, admire, and appreciate).

    Trump vs. DeSantis

Who would you rather see win the Republican presidential nomination in 2024? Trump or DeSantis (and why)?

    Exodus 4:24-26

Exodus 4:24-26 What do you make of this passage?

    Was Acts 23:6b A Lie?

Yes, that's my point (as previously stated). He was appearing before the council, because he was preaching Jesus.

    Was Acts 23:6b A Lie?

Wasn't Paul appearing before the council because he was preaching Jesus? It wasn't simply because they discovered he was a Pharisee, was it? Wasn't that claim disingenuous, at the very least?
