    "Formal" vs "Functional"

Well ... that's certainly an interesting approach. Perhaps it should have been the other way around?

For those of you who use the King James Version (KJV) as your primary translation ...

I can't help but wonder if there are any younger persons out there who use the KJV. And, if there are, what their reasoning might be in doing so.

NASB (1995 Edition) versus NASB (Current Edition)

Yes, I find it's growing on me, as well. I'm not prepared to make the transition from the 1995 edition to the 2020 edition, but the 2020 update is better than I expected it to be.

Popularity of the King James Version (KJV) ...

When one thinks about it, it's surprising the KJV has maintained its popularity as long as it has. I wish it well, moving forward.

For those who use the New King James Version (NKJV) ...

Do you think it's time to update the NKJV?

For those who use the New King James Version (NKJV) ...

Perhaps a bit random, but ... it seems to me it is nearly impossible to find the NKJV in anything other than a red letter edition. (I'm one who really prefers Bibles in a black letter format.) Do you know of any NKJV Bibles with a black letter text, by any chance?

    Your Five Favorite Bible Translations?

Yes, if memory serves, the New Testament of the NIV was initially published back in 1973. And the entire NIV Bible was first released in 1978.

    Your Five Favorite Bible Translations?

In my opinion, the 1984 edition of the NIV is preferable to the 2011 edition. That being said, opinions and preferences vary, which is to be expected, of course.

    Your Five Favorite Bible Translations?

I like the way you think, sir. Thank you for your contribution to this thread. :)

    Your Five Favorite Bible Translations?

Oh, yes, it's perfectly fine to place the 1984 edition on your list! ;) And your list agrees with my list, albeit I include the KJV on mine. :)

    Your Five Favorite Bible Translations?

It's interesting that so many of us can only come up with four favorite Bible translations. :Smile

    Your Five Favorite Bible Translations?

The NASBU (which I tend to call NASB95) and the ESV are definitely on my list, sir!

    Your Five Favorite Bible Translations?

Oh, yes. I do believe you are right about that. Thank you for helping to clear up my confusion. :)

    Your Five Favorite Bible Translations?

When you say "NASBU," is that referring to the latest edition (2020)?

    Your Five Favorite Bible Translations?

After further review, I've decided to take the CSB out of my "favorite five." I was learning to "tolerate" the gender inclusive language, but the unusual wording, at times, is less than desirable. I'm accustomed to more "traditional" renderings (like those of the KJV, NKJV, NASB95, and ESV).

    Your Five Favorite Bible Translations?

I can't help but wonder if the Legacy Standard Bible (LSB) renders passages closer to the old NASB77, than the NASB95, for instance.

    "Formal" vs "Functional"

Interesting. Thank you for the clarification, sir.

    Favorite KJV Bible Publishers?

Which edition(s) of Cambridge KJV Bible(s) do you like most?

    "Formal" vs "Functional"

I used the term "FE" based on your use of the acronym here, sir.

    "Formal" vs "Functional"

In other words, that the NET Bible is less of a functional equivalence translation than the NIV.
