    "Formal" vs "Functional"

    The NET Bible, sir.

The original written word of God.

And it's unfortunate that so many Non-Evangelical denominations would disagree, isn't it?

NASB (1995 Edition) versus NASB (Current Edition)

I noticed you didn't mention the NKJV. Do you consider the NKJV to be reliable, also?

For those who use the New King James Version (NKJV) ...

Yes, the capitalization of words is a nice feature (which I like about the NASB, also).

    Your Five Favorite Bible Translations?

Do you ever use the KJV?
  6. alexander284

For those of you who use the King James Version (KJV) as your primary translation ...

Agreed. I think the only time it may become an issue is when a church announces an "official" change from one Bible translation to another version. People tend to dislike change.

    "Formal" vs "Functional"

Yes, I agree. I think that's it, "in a nutshell."

Re: Men who like the KJV, but not the NKJV ...

Yes, so I'm all for the idea of a man using the KJV as his primary Bible translation, and using the NKJV for comparison, when encountering difficult passages.

Popularity of the King James Version (KJV) ...

Unfortunately, I do believe money has something to do with it. Once HarperCollins (the publisher of the NIV) purchased Thomas Nelson (publisher of the NKJV) the licensing fees for the NKJV suddenly became exorbitant. The publisher of the ESV (Crossway) offered churches a much lower rate on...

Popularity of the King James Version (KJV) ...

I really like the "pardon my seeming lack of concern for accuracy" statement, sir. :D

    Favorite KJV Bible Publishers?

One of my favorite things about the KJV Bible is its availability in so many wonderful editions, by so many wonderful publishers! Which publishers are among your favorites, when it comes to the King James Version (KJV) of the Bible?

    Did a C or A say this?

By the way, when I initially observed the title of your thread (for some reason) I thought it was going to have something to do with music. :Roflmao

    Going out for lunch...

That's awesome! I was secretly afraid that my comments might, in some way, offend, but something told me that wasn't going to be the case. Thank you for confirming that.

    Going out for lunch...

Yes, and another thing to consider: how much of the profits from the restaurant actually go to the members of the tribe? Isn't it more likely that the bulk of the profits, in reality, go toward expanding casino operations?

    Going out for lunch...

Well ... if I won the lottery, and I offered a tithe from my winnings to the local Baptist church, should the church accept my donation? Even if it would help with their ministries?

    Going out for lunch...

That would be incredibly difficult to do now, wouldn't it? For example, this would mean not patronizing Walmart. ;)

    Going out for lunch...

Another aspect of this that bothers me is the knowledge that the profits from the restaurant go directly to the operators of the casino. Now, I freely admit that I may be guilty of having a "weak conscience." Nevertheless, this is my (personal) point of view.

    Going out for lunch...

I can see things from the Pastor's perspective. Our Pastor once purchased a bottle of apple cider from the supermarket that looked like a champagne bottle. (It was just before New Year's Eve.) And, sure enough, someone who attended our church started a rumor that he saw our Pastor purchasing a...

    Copyright Laws

Even if permitted, I would hope that a church would choose not to take up an offering, under those circumstances. I would not want to give even the appearance of wrongdoing to any outsiders who might be in attendance. But that's just my initial reaction to the idea.

Super Bowl parties at clubs are fine, as long as they're not charging admission.
