    Operation Tiger 75th

The tragedy at Slapton Sands, Devon, in which hundreds of US servicemen lost their lives rehearsing for the Utah Beach landings, happened 75 years ago today, and is being commemorated locally by this memorial: BBC News - Exercise Tiger: Bootprints mark D-Day disaster 75th anniversary Beach art...

ISIS have claimed responsibility but in a very vague sort of way which is quite unlike them, so the jury's still out as far as I;m concerned

"Worshippers at Easter" or "Worshippers on Easter Sunday " is surely how to read that

The Queen finally sorts Brexit out.

She really doesn't want to get involved: there is a strong possibility still that if Parliament passes a Brexit Bill against the government, the government may advise her to to Assent to it, which would put the monarch against Parliament. Last time that happened it didn't end well for the monarch..

    Sri Lanka

I was surprised too. But then again I didn't post anything myself. Death toll now 290. I guess the usual suspects here aren't terribly interested if it's not clear that it's Muslims doing the killing. No group has yet claimed responsibility

Courage of their convection on display

That's the problem: we've all stopped burning and hanging people for getting it wrong in our eyes when it comes to religion. I blame you Baptists: it was all ok before you came along and taught us tolerance and pluralism; now you can't go to a good burning for love or money

    The History Of Lent

I'm sorry but I don't see anything in that passage that mentions Lent in a critical manner. What is your point in posting that? Likewise I've already said I consider sola Scriptura to be a 16th century invention so you're asking me the wrong question by asking me to "prove" something from...

Happy with that definition as far as it goes but would tweak it slightly to "A practice of the Church not explicitly found in Scripture"

    The History Of Lent

I didn't claim that Lent was mentioned in the Scriptures. It isn't, but one has to assume assuming sola Scriptura as a dcotrine first for that to be a problem. I don't - and neither did Paul as he made clear - so it isn't a problem for me

    The History Of Lent

The Church arose in a Jewish milieu which was in turn liturgical in its worship and other practices. Paul makes it clear in several places eg: 2 Thess 2:15 that he is passing on - 'traditio' in the Latin Vulgate translation - that which he has received or already has. All the patristic documents...

    The History Of Lent

It was passed down from the apostles as Steve said so I don't think it is irrelevant

LOL! We have other things on our minds ATM here ie: the complete Dog's Breakfast that is Brexit and the political and constitutional crisis that this has caused, so are unable to tackle arguably more important issues like those in the OP sadly...

Yes, San Andres used to be an English pirates' lair and their descendants still live there, although immigration from the Spanish speaking mainland means they are now in a minority

I've no idea why Brian is going to Cuba but the royals often have to meet unsavoury people and hold their noses in the name of realpolitik. His mother had to entertain the Ceausescus 40 years ago. The size of the state and welfare has shrunk dramatically over this decade so the poor are having...
