Translating Lamb as Pig and Snow as Wool

The way animals were killed was used to illustrate the gospel. What could be clearer. In your case it seems as clear as a pig rummaging in mud. And just considering the dense amount of references to sheep and shepherds, much of the Bible would have to be changed to accommodate. If you...

Translating Lamb as Pig and Snow as Wool

But I'm not talking about food they simply eat. I'm talking about the animal that represents crudeness. There were probably very few pigs found in Israel. That is partly what makes the prodigal son story so shocking and illustrative. At the same time, when you compare how sheep are...

Translating Lamb as Pig and Snow as Wool

It is dumbed down when the illustrative nature of, say a lamb, has been reduced to something disgusting and repulsive. The illustration of a lamb going silently to slaughter is gone when you change it to a pig. Plus, since so much of Scripture uses the shepherd/sheep analogy in a variety of...

Translating Lamb as Pig and Snow as Wool

Transliterate as JoJ said above. I think his philosophy is sound in terms of not wanting to present "another gospel". The images that lamb or snow evoke are vital to the picture of Jesus and the gospel. Changing Jesus to a pig herder changes the message. So transliterate the word and...

    Now Turmoil at Bryan College

And it was not the creation department so much as the research department of that subject. It was amazing a school like that had such a department geared solely toward research and housing 2 faculty that had a very light teaching load to enable that research.

How do you interpret John 20: 22?

Simply John's version of the fulfillment of gift of the Holy Spirit. It is also a major theme in John in reference to Ezekiel's promise of the Spirit being fulfilled. So it is John's way of indicating that the age to come has in some way started with the resurrection of Jesus and his disciples...

πατερπαησις See... Paul's not the only guy who can invent Greek words either! (Hebrew is not my forte... I'll let someone stronger in that language tackle that word creation).

    Christian Education Degrees and Ministry

Which makes an MA in Teaching as well as an MA in Theo Studs or Bib Studs a good option for seminary students.

    Christian Education Degrees and Ministry

This seems legit to me. For examples, even many online Christian univerisities are offering MA in Teaching (like Liberty for one). And this is distinct from the MEd since that degree has the prereq of a bachelors degree in that field (typically). So why bother with a focused degree on...

    Visit to SWBTS Today.

I hope they are on the rise again. And it is good to have the ministry focused element. Glad to hear that one could point to one of the 6 (though I'm sure there are others) in the SBC as the preaching school.

Does it matter why a person "comes to Christ" or just that a person comes???

I'm not saying to avoid those issues. I am saying that they are not the motivating factors. Preaching sin and hell is only reasonable when comparing the glory of God and how sin belittles God's glory and hell affirms his glory via justice and holiness. So even then, the focus is God not the...

Does it matter why a person "comes to Christ" or just that a person comes???

Most of what I'm saying is quoted from others. I'm not giving my soteriology necessarily... just my thoughts on a real gospel presentation.

Does it matter why a person "comes to Christ" or just that a person comes???

Sorry the question is not worded as clearly as possible. I did it in a hurry this morning. Another way to think of the issue is that is the gospel actually presented when you are scaring people "out of hell and into heaven" so to speak? Or is this another gospel that misses the point...

Does it matter why a person "comes to Christ" or just that a person comes???

For example, I've been hearing messages to students that were basically "accept Jesus so you don't have to go to hell" or "... so you can go to heaven and see your friends and family" or "so you don't have to go through the rapture" and so on.... I believe that you follow Jesus b/c the Spirit...

    A Campus in Turmoil

And this is the kind of fundamentalist thinking I'm done with... passion for narrowness and certainty w/out the possibility that you may not have it all figured out and a refusal to have decent dialogue with those that differ. This is not about being wishy washy. This is about leaving the...

Will the Church Be Next on GLAAD's Agenda?

Hope that it is. The church in America needs persecution at this point. Something to force them to stand up for a Gospel that says Jesus is Lord rather than God loves you the way you are. It would weed out the posers.

    Open Air Preaching

I think it is somewhat telling that the OPer has not responded to his thread. Was he looking for youtube hits??? Was he looking for free advertising? Was he wanting people to see that he is evangelizing and we are too busy reading about his evangelism? I don't see the point of this thread.

    A Campus in Turmoil

But he was thinking of fundamentalism. I think he even expressed that. The point is, the concept of this sort of evangelicalism is not that it leans to one side of the conservative/liberal spectrum but rather that it embraces both views as valid talking points. And the "liberal" we are...
