    Rattlesnakes?

Look, we can either have a country that upholds religious freedom, or we can have what the British had back in 1776. At the point that the government starts saying there will only be one recognized religion, whether it be islam or someone's particular brand/flavor of Christianity, I'll lead the...

Was Jesus Christ a Jew by Blood ?

Dude, seriously, what is your point?

Was Jesus Christ a Jew by Blood ?

Ah, finally; this is an anti-semitic thread. Thanks for clearing that up.

Man Who Filmed Eric Garner Being Choked Says Grand Jury Was Rigged

You do realize that the other side of that coin is NOT that they had enough evidence? But that they spent extra time trying to find evidence that indicated wrong-doing on the officer's part, with the intent of "we're gona find this guy guilty"? Until they reached a point that they realized the...

Man Who Filmed Eric Garner Being Choked Says Grand Jury Was Rigged

Disagree, Zaac. Missouri was handled by a mix of ethnicities that decided there was no reason to proceed. In NY, a policeman used an unauthorized restraining procedure that resulted in the suspect's death. NY, in my personal opinion, more likely warranted protests and outrage than Ferguson did.

Was Jesus Christ a Jew by Blood ?

I'm still trying to figure out the point of this thread.

Tales of the Happy Valley "Gestapo"

Poncho - to make such a claim, you would need to provide many more stories about Texas policemen. You know it. A few anectdotal stories does not an entire corrupt police force make.

    Rattlesnakes?

I normally agree with OR; and I've had my run-ins with Matt. But I'm with Matt on thos one. Sorry, OR; that message doesn't pass the giggle test. Consider: in order for the analogy of rattlesnakes and jihadists to work, one must accept as fact that anyone with a middle eastern name is a...

    Pastor Search Committee and resumes

PreachinJesus' answer is great. Honestly, including a birthdate is helpful. What's also helpful these days is including a DVD with several different sermons on it. When you live in Florida, and are submitting for a small rural church in Texas, Arkansas, Oklahoma, etc. - there's not gonna be...

    Nope, no deacons.

    Pastor Search Committee and resumes

Tony - I understand what y'all are doing. In the IFB circles, the deacons are the leaders of the church (after the pastor), and are responsible for the flock. What I've personally found during my time with an SBC church is that there are two groups: the deacons and the trustees. As RevMitchell...

amateurs and political Operatives micromanage the DoD from the White House

I'm aware of military leaders being replaced; most recent one was a ship's captain. However, he was replaced because of inappropriate behavior towards female subordinates, which led to a declaration of "loss of confidence." And it doesn't matter how many are replaced: each one has hundreds of...

amateurs and political Operatives micromanage the DoD from the White House

This is why all that conjecture about Obama declaring martial law is without merit. He can't get his own SECDEF chiefs to stay with him (especially Hagel, who was chosen because he was expected to toe the line); how do you think he'll get the entire military to turn on their own country?

    A pastor’s qualifications:

Actually, it's NOT a denial of the virgin birth. It's a statement of having relations AFTER the pregnancy.

Just got the pathology report; Stage 3. Only one lymph node. Surgeon thinks chemo without radiation; we're setting up an appointment with an oncologist. More to come.

    A pastor’s qualifications:

How about an alternative to this? How about the man who went through the marriage struggle, but didn't get divorced? Would they be as qualified as the divorced man? Let's not forget we're talking about the pastor here. Anyone can preach, and counsel others on the problems you've identified...

    A pastor’s qualifications:

Original post was #9. My point being, that some try to justify that "husband of one wife" by saying one wife at a time; however, is that same standard applied to the additional verse later in 1 Timothy? I agree with your view of the marriage.

    A pastor’s qualifications:

You're so stuck on "past sins" that you're overlooking what the job of a pastor is. The pastor is the under-shepherd; the man hired to watch the flock, take care of them, lead them and keep them from going astray, find them when they get separated, etc. That's the analogy. In the case of us...

    A pastor’s qualifications:

The book of Titus specifically states that Titus was to ordain elders, and then goes on to list those same qualifications that were identified in 1 Timothy 3. To imply that these qualifications were instructions only to Timothy and Titus is incorrect.
