    Criticizing Roman Catholicism

That''s a bit low, isn't it? Nominalism and lip service exist in all denominations as far as I can tell; Elvis Presley was a Pentecostal but committed adultery repeatedly, took drugs and abused his body in other ways. Need I also mention the TV evangelists caught with their pants down or their...

has Rome EVER Changed Views On Council of Trent?

Yes, PSA is but one model and one part of what the Crucifixion (and Resurrection - don't forget that!) achieved. There are other components: substitutionary atonement (ie: without the penal part), Christus Victor and the ransom theory.

Not just then, surely - see Rom 12:1-2 for example.

    Ontological change

has Rome EVER Changed Views On Council of Trent?

Exactly. In one sense only can justification be said to be a 'one-off' event - the Crucifixion.

has Rome EVER Changed Views On Council of Trent?

It depends which Luther we're talking about! The c.1521-1525 Luther was much more inclined to what modern evangelicals would call sola fide than the post-1525 Luther, the latter realising that the antinomianism implicit in the former's soteriology had led to the Peasant War which horrified him...

Correct; physical circumcision is no longer required.

That assumes that sola fide as believed by Luther corresponds to that laid out by the Synod of Dordt. The Joint Declaration makes it clear that the Pope agrees with Luther on his meaning. As some wag once put it: if Joseph Ratzinger was alive in 1521 he'd have been a Lutheran, and if Luther were...

    Criticizing Roman Catholicism

Thanks! And to you and yours too. Time does not permit me a full reply but suffice it to say that I found the article's negation of the physical to smack too much of gnosticism for my liking. IMO, it makes the cardinal error of assuming that because Paul was against circumcision as a physical...

OK, that's pretty close then to Catholic soteriology.

Here is the 'hint' - element of Chinese Whispers in it I guess

Is the holder changed in any way by holding that trust? If so, in what way?

    Criticizing Roman Catholicism

The English Trad A-Cs are a dying breed - many defected to Rome 20+ years ago over the OoW and most of the remainder swam the Tiber more recently over the threat of women Bishops, via the Ordinariate established by +++Benedict XVI. +++Francis I has hinted that he'll get rid of the Ordinariate...

Yes - see my link to the Joint Declaration.

Getting close I think....what consequences does that trust have in this life for the holder of that trust?

Anglo-Catholics are tat queens. They also tend to be liberal in their theology these days, at least on this side of The Pond, probably because they are tat queens.

has Rome EVER Changed Views On Council of Trent?

Does 'faith' mean, for example, just saying 'The Sinner's Prayer', believing in Jesus and His atoning sacrifice, 'asking Jesus into your life', or any of the other 'buzz phrases' I've heard in my 25+ years within evangelicalism? Because if that's all it is, I've done all of the above at some...
