The Internet Research Agency, based in St. Petersburg, Russia, was named in the indictment as the hub of an ambitious effort to trick Americans into following Russian-fed propaganda that pushed U.S. voters toward then-Republican candidate Donald Trump and away from Democrat Hillary Clinton.

In addition to polarizing online political conversation, Facebook reported that the Internet Research Agency used Facebook pages to organize 129 real-world events that drew the attention of nearly 340,000 Facebook users. One of these, organized by a group called Heart of Texas, took place on May 21, 2016, under the banner of “Stop Islamization of Texas.”

Twitter has acknowledged finding 3,814 accounts linked to the IRA, which together posted some 176,000 tweets in the 10 weeks preceding the election. The company also found 50,258 automated accounts it said were connected to the Russian government and tweeted more than a million times.

Russian troll farm, 13 suspects indicted for interference in U.S. election

There really was "fake news" during the election. It came out of Russia in support of Trump.

Yes, and Trump had nothing to do with it!

However, Obama, Hillary, and the FBI. . . that's the story here. Makes Watergate look like chid's play.

This is the most one sided post I have seen in awhile. These same people supported Sanders, as well as organizing anti-Trump protests. Funny thing is if some were in the US legally (I believe they were) then this is their first amendment right to do this...or can legal immigrants not purchase political ads?

George Soros does this every day.

Stealing identities is against the law. So is attempting to influence elections by foreign entities, wire fraud and destruction of evidence. You should read the indictment.

Yes, Trump had nothing to do with this case. That's all that can be determined at this point.

The investigation seems to be thorough. Apparently no on saw this one coming. Mueller is playing everything close to the vest, as a competent prosecutor should.

As for this being the most one-sided post in quite a while, I guess you haven't been paying attention.

I wonder when Mueller will indict himself for his cover up of the shameful Uranium One deal while he was the head of the FBI? He must have been tight with the Ruskies.

So glad you can contribute, even though it's a nullity. For some people it's all they can offer.

The crooked FBI could not take time to investigate the complaints against Nickolas Cruz the Florida school shooter because they were too busy working on political stuff the last year. The current FBI director should resign because he knows that he is no good.

What We Know About 13 Russians Indicted by the US
The New York Times The Troll Farm: What We Know About 13 Russians Indicted by the U.S.

ST. PETERSBURG, Russia — Operating from St. Petersburg, they churned out falsehoods on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube. They promoted Donald J. Trump and denigrated Hillary Clinton. They stole the identities of American citizens. They organized political rallies in several states, and hired a Clinton impersonator for one event, in West Palm Beach, Fla.

According to the indictment, he controlled two companies that financed the operations of the Internet Research Agency, a shadowy troll farm. Created in 2013, it began a so-called translator project in 2014 that targeted Americans and pursued “information warfare against the United States.” It employed hundreds of people and, by the summer of 2016, was spending $1.2 million a month.

In the past five years, Mr. Prigozhin has received government contracts worth $3.1 billion. Lately, he has branched out into areas like recruiting contract soldiers to fight overseas and establishing a popular online news service that pushes a nationalist viewpoint, making him even more indispensable to Mr. Putin. Mr. Prigozhin, 56, declined several interview requests from The New York Times in recent months.

The troll farm soon drew notice in Russia: news outlets reported that it employed 250 people in 12-hour shifts to provide a round-the-clock flow of pro-Kremlin posts and comments, praising Mr. Putin and excoriating President Barack Obama and President Petro O. Poroshenko of Ukraine. Monthly salaries ranged from $1,100 for a junior analyst to $1,400 for a blogger to $4,200 a month for senior management.

Ms. Kaverzina grew worried after Facebook revealed last September that it was cooperating with the authorities to look into Russian advertising on the platform. “We had a slight crisis here at work: the F.B.I. busted our activity (not a joke),” she wrote to a relative, according to the indictment. “So, I got preoccupied with covering tracks together with the colleagues,” she added. “I created all these pictures and posts, and the Americans believed that it was written by their people.”

The correct statement is Trump was not named to be in collusion with the Russians IN THIS INDICTMENT. The investigation is ongoing.

Mueller Still Investigating Possible Collusion

Mueller Still Investigating Possible Collusion, Source Says

Special Counsel Robert Mueller and his prosecutors haven’t concluded their investigation into whether President Donald Trump or any of his associates helped Russia interfere in the 2016 election, according to a person with knowledge of the probe.

Friday’s indictment of a St. Petersburg-based “troll farm” and 13 Russian nationals should be seen as a limited slice of a comprehensive investigation, the person said. Mueller’s work is expected to continue for months and also includes examining potential obstruction of justice by Trump, said the person, who requested anonymity to discuss an investigation that is largely confidential.

Mueller Deflates Trump Claim That Russia Meddling Was Hoax
Mueller Accuses Russians of Pro-Trump, Anti-Clinton Meddling

Donald Trump has insisted for more than a year that Russians didn’t try to get him elected. Special Counsel Robert Mueller put an end to those claims on Friday, declaring definitively that they did.

A federal grand jury indicted 13 Russian nationals and a so-called “troll farm” in St. Petersburg on Friday for a broad campaign to sway the 2016 election in Trump’s favor. The indictment alleges that the operation was funded to the tune of $1.25 million a month by companies controlled by a Russian businessman close to the Kremlin.

The indictment means that Trump can no longer credibly cast doubt on alleged Russian election meddling. His own national security adviser said Saturday that the evidence was “incontrovertible.” And if he was still harboring dreams of firing U.S. Special Counsel Robert Mueller or Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, something many Republicans already have warned against, such a move may be politically impossible.

So, how many democrats here changed their mind and voted for Trump because of social media posts they read from people they didn't know?

Don't worry, I won't be holding my breath waiting on an answer. :Laugh

I agree with Florida Governor Rick Scott that FBI director Christopher Wray should resign. The FBI is a total disgrace.

When this mass witch hunt finally ends, will you be so loud for President Obama and Mrs Clinton to get their grand jury and the due justice their crimes should have merited?

The MSM are deliberately trying to conflate the issue - the Mueller indictments yesterday alleged Russian interference, NOT collusion. Trump never said no Russian interfered with the election. He knows they did because they always do, they are Russians.

Still don't see the point of these indictments - Russia will not extradite these people and I doubt they'll fly here on their own dime just to face charges. Maybe if they go to France for a vacation or to annoy them, they can be picked up. You could go after others using Mueller's logic: https://lawandcrime.com/opinion/doe...on-campaign-can-be-indicted-for-chris-steele/

but remember we are not getting the trolls' side of the argument - this is just the prosecutorial case and what it reads like is this group, Internet Research Agency, went here just to cause chaos, why they targeted to "defend" the two most over-the-top candidates yet ignored the ones most likely to win their nominations, and then organized pro and anti-Trump rallies after the election. They are Russians, after all, at least now their visas will be revoked.

What are the charges, exactly? Hillary has already been examined 10 times about Benghazi and the emails. What's your charge against her? What is your charge against president Obama?

I agree with Florida Governor Rick Scott that FBI director Christopher Wray should resign. The FBI is a total disgrace.
He's another one of Trump's unqualified appointments.
When was Wray installed as FBI Director?
Wray was formally installed as the new director of the FBI on Sep. 28, after he was confirmed by the Senate on a 92-5 vote in August. All five nay votes came from Democrats.

He was unanimously approved by the Senate Judiciary Committee in July, after he appeared before the committee. President Trump called Wray "an impeccably qualified individual" in a June statement.

I think all of Trump's appointments should resign as well as Trump himself.
