1964 Chevy Impala

Wow! My son just bought a 1964 Chevy Impala, fully loaded, original condition (mint), and just brought it over to show me. (Light blue.) Wow. I had forgotten just how SWEET the American Automobiles used to be, loaded with chrome everywhere, heavy duty, immaculate.

This was how American cars USED to be built - long before EPA and tin can quality of the cars churned out today. This was in the day when there were actual carburators, etc. And back yard mechanics could actually work on them and change the oil, etc. BEFORE EPA and gov regs. Ah, Sweetness....

My dream car has always been either a 1959 or 1960 Chevy Impala convertible, red with white top and white interior, lol. When I was 9 and 10, I used to dream about owning one some day, but of course, never have.

So what's your favorite classic car?

You must show pics! LOL

My favorite that has been in the family is a '54 F100. My dad and I did a lot of work on it. It was a blast to drive with a bored out 302/headers and dual pipes out the back, C6 transmission and a 9 inch rear end with 4.11's. We also had a '66 Mustang coupe. It went from my mom, to my brother-in-law, to me. It had the body restored and all the original trunk equipment. We bored out the 302 and although I put a 4 speed in it for awhile the 3 speed was just fun to drive. I bought it 3 weeks after I married my bride. I took it to Germany where it now stays. I admit I cried when both the truck and the car got sold. All my pictures are packed.

I had a '68 Mustang. Flamingo Pink. First was hit in the front and the second time was rear-ended and totalled (bent the frame - neither one was my fault!!! Sure, sure, no it's true!!).

My dad said people must have not liked the color so they hit it, lol.

My best friend in high school had a 69 fastback. It was hit in front of our apartment. It was totalled for the bent frame from that hit. A girl was speeding, made a left onto our street, and slid wide going right into the left rear quarter panel.

My dream car (since there's NO WAY I could've afforded it then or now!) was/is the Avanti II. Orginally made by Studebaker (Avanti I, I think that what it was called--noted for its round headlights), then taken over by some private company that squared its headlights & installed some kind of high-powered Chevy engine in it.

[Not even sure if that private company is still in business any more since the last info I had on them dates back to the early 1990's.]

When I was 6 years old we bought a '65 Impala station wagon. I'm quite sure a s.w. was my mom's idea, as we had 4 kids and were planning on going on a 1400 mile trip with a couple of grandparents, making 8 in one vehicle. But my dad had always been a Ford man, and I think all of mom's cars had been Fords, too. Thinking about it years later, I concluded this is probably a good example of how advertising works. My dad watched few television shows regularly, but one he watch weekly was Bonanza-- and what company sponsored that show from its first season to its last? Right, and they always branded that (bogus) map of the Virginia City area with that familiar insignia.

Anyway, it wasn't really that good a car; transmission and alternator problems, poor mileage (though that was not high priority for most drivers then). But we did like being able to move around in the back area and climb over the seats-- things kids can't do now, at least not legally. But I think it would be cool now to have a car of that era and work on it, maybe even drive it on occasion.

LOL. When I was a kid, my dad had an Edsel station wagon. It had a push button automatic transmission in the center of the steering wheel. Dad always worked on the cars, but never could get that Edsel transmission to do what it was supposed to do. So you would push R but not know if it would go in Reverse or Drive! It was a pretty thing, too.

Found a picture on the web - this looks EXACTLY like it, but I think our roof might have been blue!!!

What we really want is a picture of the '64 Impala, LE.

My grandpa always drove gold Cadillacs. He had a handful of them while I was growing up and I was determined, one day, to have a gold Caddy of my own. I bought a '93 Fleetwood a couple of years ago. Last summer madre and I went to a local car show. I cried everytime we walked past something we owned at one time or another.

Where are the pics?

My first car was a 1973 Oldsmobile Custom Cruiser Station Wagon with a 45 4 barrel. 9 passenger. It was appreciated by a lot of friends who did not want to ride the bus to school.

When I graduated my Granfdfather gave me his 1968 AMC Rebel SST coupe 290 V8 4 on the floor in mint condition.

Rev, do you have a pic of the Rebel? That sounds cool. Must have been nice. Did you treat it well?

It was fast. I do not have a pic of it. Wish I did. I also wish I still had it. The pic here is not of mine but of the same car. Mine was red.

Okay, here is the only pic I have, the one he sent from his phone. When he was here the other day, I didn't think to take any pics. This one is not very good, taken in the garage.
And I wasn't sure how to get a link, but just figured out how to do my album on the BB!!
