@Martin Marprelate highlighted what I have been saying.

God is a just Judge; and God is angry with the wicked every day.'

The problen is not the actions of the wicked but the actual wicked.

The cross was not Jesus suffering God's punishment for the sins of the wicked so that the wicked would not be held accountable for their sins.

The cross was God reconciling mankind to God, God predestining us to be conformed to His image, to die to sin, to be righteousness, to be glorified in Him.

The law is fulfilled in us, not because of our "old self" but because we will - on the day of wrath, at Judgement - be righteous, be glorified, be made in the image of Christ.
