What is your final authority?

Note that unlike second rate polls, this is
a first rate poll: you can see how the vote
is going BEFORE you vote. That way you can
be sure to vote with the majority
(if so inclined) or the minority (if so
inclined that way).

Here are the final results of the first poll
(as of 8PM EDT, 18 Aug 2004)

Poll Results: What is your final authority? (27 votes.)
What is your final authority?
Choose 1

The King James version. 37% (10)
You 0% (0)
The NIV 0% (0)
The NKJV 0% (0)
The RSV 0% (0)
The NRSV 0% (0)
other 63% (17)

As can be seen, there is no version which
is construed as a "final authority" other
than the King James versions.
This means, to me, that the whole concept
of "final authority" is a King James Bible
Only (KJBO) propaganda stunt.

to my knowlage, which realy isn't saying much, the 1611 , and the rest are the same, maybe they used diferant spelling techniques but reveal the same exact message, where have you heard of the other versions, are these other versions available on the market, with all due respect, this is not a conspericy theory like you belive Mr. Ed

No, it is a conspiracy. The only people who ever make a fuss about a "final authority" are KJVOs who are trying to pick a fight.

Here go, Brother Rooster, check your KJV out:
Somehow, to me "he" and "she" are a tad
more than "spelling" changes.
There are also punctuation changes.
You know how punctuation can change
the meaning.

Which King James Version do you use?
Here is a sample test:

1. Ruth III:15d (KJV1611):

... and he went into the citie.

2. Ruth 3:15 (KJV1769):

... and she went into the city.

3. Ruth 3:15 (KJV1873):

... and he went into the city.

I note that most KJV electronic sources
are from the KJV1769.

Ruth 3

14. And she lay at his feet until the morning: and she rose up before one could know another. And he said, Let it not be known that a woman came into the floor.
15. Also he said, Bring the vail that thou hast upon thee, and hold it. And when she held it, he measured six measures of barley, and laid it on her: and she went into the city.
16. And when she came to her mother in law, she said, Who art thou, my daughter? And she told her all that the man had done to her.

The one to which is correct. an you figure out which one and why?

Why the obvious contradiction in 3 different KJV revisions?

Something is NOT "perfect".

Ed Edwards

The New King James Version (nKJV) is
superior to the three KJVs:

Ruth 3:15 (nKJV):
Also he said, "Bring the shawl that is on you and hold it."
And when she held it, he measured six ephahs of
barley, and laid it on her. Then she F4 went into the city.
------------------------------------------------------------
FOOTNOTES:
F4: Many Hebrew manuscripts, Syriac, and Vulgate read she;
Masoretic Text, Septuagint, and Targum read he.

At least the nKJV explains the dificulty:
the source texts for the Old Testament
available to the King James Version of 1611
translators; the source texts for the Old Testament
availbe to the King James Version of 1769
retranslators (AKA: respellers); the source
texts for the Old Testament available to
the KJV1873 retranslaters -- these
source texts were DIFFERENT.

Interesting results so far.
The unauthorized versions, the KJV1769 and
KJV1873 are leading the authorized version (AV)
KJV1611 by a 4-to-1. Why do many KJVO sites
speak of the AV1611 when they actually use
the KJV1769 edition?
Why is the KJB called the AV1611 when in fact
it is the unauthorized KJV1769 edition?

When the KJV was revised for two two different
British publishers in 1762 and 1769, some
of the profits went to the crown. Recall that
the 13-colonies later to become the USofA fought
against the crown from 1776-1783. After 1783
the USofA was independent of (and a tad put out by)
the crown. Books printed in the USofA didn't even
necessary make good copies of the KJV1769.
I choose to call these unauthorized copies
(most of which said "authorized") as well
as the authorized KJV1762 and authorized KJV1769
a class of Bibles - the KJV1769 edition or "KJV1769"
for short.

Because they are the same thing.

Things that are different ARE NOT the same

You got that right. So why is it you choose/condone those things that are different?

I should like to bring this over from another topic so I may answer. Below is my answer to Anti_Alexandrian's request to provide Scripture supporting some Scripture coming from Alexandria...

roby:There's no such Scripture as you and I both know...

A_A:OK.

Then HOW can you maintain your position when there is not ONE VERSE OF SCRIPTURE TO SUPPORT IT??!!

Because there's none against it...and they ARE Scripture, while the written KJVO theory is NOT.

I mean, you rant and rave about us(the Bible believer) having to bear the burden of proof for our position when Acts 11 & 13(and Church history) support our postition..

Unlike the KJVO myth, the Alex mss are a reality, not just some theory invented by a SDA official. And, like every KJVO you wanna have your cake & eat it too, that is, you want someone to believe your myth without your having to justify it.

You have none!!

No, that's the KJVO position. Someone invented a fishing story and wants us to accept it without question.

quote:
but there's also no PROHIBITION against any scripture that could've come from Alexandria either. You're gonna hafta come up with a better excuse than that to try to support the KJVO myth.

I'm sorry, but God made it plain for Jewish people to stay out of Egypt;and seeing how the Jews were custodians of Scripture(Romans 3:2,Deuteronomy 17:18; 31:25-26,and Malachi 2:7.),God made it PLAIN for his name NOT to be spoken of in the land of Egypt by the Jews(Jeremiah 44:26).

Seems as you didn't read Jer.44 in its entirety and you've missed the context of V.26. God had commanded that the Jews not taken to Babylon were to remain in their land, but they rebelled & killed the Babs appointed to govern them. realizing they could be in serious trouble with Neb, they decided to flee to Egypt because they thought Egypt could protect them from the Babs. In other words, they both didn't trust God to protect them, and disobeyed him thrice by not submitting to Babylon, returning to Egypt to live permanently, which He'd long-ago commanded them never to do again, and once again worshipping the "Queen of Heaven".(the planet Venus)

This has nothing to do with Scriptures copied in Egypt.

Now, does God hate Egypt? True, He's punished her greatly, but He's punished the Jews MUCH more! But God has said He will restore both Judah and Israel & make them one nation again. And we see judah has become the "pound-for-pound" military world champ in less than 50 years, and is growing stronger daily.

God says there'll be a road connecting Israel, Egypt, and Assyria.(Isaiah 19)(Before long, God Willing, I'm gonna study to see who the Assyrians are today. They are NOT the Germans as Herbie Armstrong claimed. Many of them, along with many Israelites, migrated to the vicinity of the Volga River as Babylon grew in power.)I believe those Scriptures same as any other Scripture, and I believe they will LITERALLY come to pass.

Isaiah 19:25 Whom the LORD of hosts shall bless, saying, Blessed be **Egypt my people**, and Assyria the work of my hands, and Israel mine inheritance.

Just like the ol' saying goes here in the South,"that dog wont hunt."

But the KJVO hound is barking up an empty tree, believing it's found ELVIS.

Im afraid I dont have a original 1611 with original spelling. My Bible is with modern spelling(once again, note modern spelling not modern words.) Please post the differences.

Maybe the Iraqis. Maybe this prophecy bodes well for the Bush led effort to liberate Iraq.

You are right,I believe that the KJV is my Final Authority because God promised to preserve His Word.He did not say that He would spread it all over and make us hunt for it which apparently is the anti-KJVO position. I believe that an almighty and powerful God can(and did) preserve His Word and I hold it in my hand today.I do not believe that He wants me to hunt for it among many conflicting versions.According to the anti-KJV side:if there is Gods Word on earth,we dont know what it looks like or where it is and it really doesnt matter because even if we could find it we couldnt interprate it. Or they say that Gods Word is confined to "the Greek or Hebrew text". I cannot get ONE non-KJVO person to tell me what their final authority is.The closest I can get is that they will say that "God is my final authority" convenently ignoring explaining how they know what He says.If I want to know what my God says I can go to my KJV Bible and see His answer. I do NOT need to change the Bible to fit my doctrine,I change my doctrine to fit the Bible.
You anti-KJV peoples final authority is yourselves and your opinion. Why is it that very few christians today go out doorknocking and streetpreaching? Our churches today are going cold, teaching a variety of doctrines from a variety of bibles. If you dont agree with what one bible says then switch to another one that says what you want it to say.
When you answer this please tell me why christians and our churches arent on fire for the Lord like they used to be.
