I remember the years when there were naysayers about the gas mileage we get today in cars. They went form rear wheel drive to front wheel drive. The car I had in 1984 when I got rid of it had less than 100,000 miles on it but it was tired and I had already replaced seevral parts that the car I won today has never needed replacing. The car I own today has 220,000 miles on it and is in far better shape than my car was in 1984. The upholstery is better and has cost me far less in manintenance and repairs than my previous car.

True. Chalk that up to competition, better engineering and materials, NOT to the government or to environ"mental"ists. Government NEVER invented anything and is the antithesis to competition.

I do also remember when the U.S. standards were more stringent for domestic automobiles than for the foreign automobiles coming to America.

Wasn't it some government workers who made the bombs for use in Japan? There have been times when the competition has worked together and devised a plan to raise the price of their products. It happened with Stanley and their competitors about 1987. Didn't it seem like the oil companies did the same thing about one year ago?

Recently I did some research and could find almost nothing in what I was looking for except to come to the conclusion that the military is not sharing what they know.

Not really! The Los Alamos National Lab where much of the research was performed and bombs fabricated? was operated by the University of California. The weapons materials were made at Oak Ridge, Tennessee [U-235] operated by Union Carbide and Hanford, Washington [Pu-239] operated by DuPont.
