True, most IFBs think of SBs as a denomination on its own.
What most don't realize is that denomination has to basic definitions:
1) an organization with a hierarchy - (some -to total control)
2) those with similar beliefs (ie w/o a hierarchy)

If they were to remove their overly large heads from their overly independent bottoms, they'd be able to see the truth. They don't want to...and since there isn't any sand around, they, like the ostrich, bury their heads in the nearest cavity!

Agreed.Because they take the word "independent" to the utmost extreme.
Agreed.
Notice the edit I made in post # 25
Relax brother, I'm an independent Baptist pastor and I see that SBs are not a denomination and that belonging to a group doesn't make the church automatically subservient.
Are some IFBs pharisaical and conceited? Sure.
Is the SBC a mess? Sure.
But calling out the conceit of others in bold red font is a little ironic.
Please name some. I’m thinking Bob Jones… think there was one is Wisconsin but can’t recall the name.
I was raised IFB in the early 1970s in a small midwestern town. I went to Bible college in a small, IFB church-run "college," and then to Maranatha Baptist Bible College in Watertown, Wisconsin. I know MANY good people in the IFB movement, and I greatly respect them. However, I also know that a MAJORITY of the IFB pastors I've come across over my lifetime, and I'm 60+ years old, have preached against the SBC for many years. It's always aggravated the tar out of me because of the UNTRUTHS they tell, the intentional misrepresentation they give, and the "we are "I"ndependent (Big I....Little "YOU) Baptists. They throw it around as a "badge of honor" when, in fact, because of all of the scandals over the years, sexual and otherwise, they should be ashamed of their elitist attitudes. I was an IFB preacher, but, I left the IFB movement because of the Hyles worshipping, sexual and child abuse-defending manure piles I constantly had to try and avoid, even as a parishioner. Ever hear of Dave Hyles? Ever hear of Vic and Jenny Nischik? Ever hear of Joe Combs? There are many others...not just the Hyles group.
All of that being said, my wife and I left the IFB movement after years of prayer and searching, and during a sermon where the pastor we were under was preaching a sermon defending Joe Combs and claiming he'd been "set up" by the government to bring shame on the name of Christ. UGH! We got up during the middle of that sermon and left. That evening we were in an SBC church service. That was nearly 22 years ago. We've lost friends because of our move to the SBC....Is the SBC a mess? Yes, sir, for sure it is. Is it a denomination? Of course not. That's the world's view of the SBC.
Now, as far as my writing in "bold red font," that's funny. I do this because it is far easier for my old eyes to see than the black font. Is there a problem with that? On your end, maybe. I certainly hope not. So, the only thing ironic would be your typical judgemental attitude that I've seen with many IFB preachers. Thanks for helping me make my point, Brother!Have a nice morning.
Immature rant.

Your opinion. I see little sign of intelligence from you, too. Thanks.Immature rant.
Thank you for taking the time to relate this. It would have been helpful to open with that initially.
I would not be surprised if there is much truth to what you relate. I only hope bitterness has not gotten the better of you, as it tends to do with us all.
By convention, the purpose of italicized, coloured, and boldened font is to express emphasis.
How is anyone supposed to divine that you used it for your eyes, unless you tell them? That bold and red is easier for you to read, OK, but did you use italics for the same reason? You'll understand that's a little hard to believe, though I'm willing to.
You wrote a long, bold, red, italicized paragraph, judging IFB preachers with a veiled figure of profanity, to which I responded by acknowledging the validity of your point in general, save for pointing out that
And your non-judgmental assessment of that is:
?
I think the point is clear enough to any reader.
...Thank you for continuing to show just exactly what many of us who were in the IFB for many years have seen. Typical. I have no bitterness towards the IFB, but I do have the right to discern who is being pharisaical. Thanks for continuing to help prove my point. Have a nice day, Brother.
You're always welcome to your opinion, no matter how wrong it is. Have a nice evening.I just read the whole thread.
Mr. Antonios, you were very kind.
Sorry to say AVL has a bad attitude. You are right to just drop it.
