Yes, Rush is in the news.

When I was a Taxi driver, I would often listen to his show. Many times my clients* would complain and demand I turn the station.

I would then ask them why they don't like Rush. They would answer they didn't like what he would say. I then would asked specifically what they did not like what Rush spoke about. Virtually no one could give me a specific and the very few time they did give something specific, I usually agreed with them.

So here is the assignment for this thread:

What specifically has Rush said or what he believes that you think is absolutely wrong.

For the purpose of this thread please do not include the "slut" issue, his divorce or his previous drug problems. ( not that they are not important - but they are being brought up on other threads - and thus the genesis for this discussion.)

So please be specific. If you give comments such as "he is a jerk" well that carries absolutely no weight with me. Another words convince me with specifics that the message that Rush is preaching is bad for this country.

So let this civil discussion begin....

I don't often listen to him.

Every once in a while he clobbers us with off-color remarks or double-entendre.

Not that its so shocking to me personally as I had a potty-mouth myself before being saved but since you asked...

One occassion I remember vividly is a comment he made about a Democrat senator (now deceased) and his "girlfriend".

Of course I cannot go into the details or I'll get banned.

My biggest complaint about Rush is that he uses profanity.

Here are some comments Rush has made that I believe are wrong and indicate a pernicious person:

“We need segregated buses… This is Obama’s America.”

“You know who deserves a posthumous Medal of Honor? James Earl Ray [the confessed assassin of Martin Luther King]. We miss you, James. Godspeed.”

I could add more, but to what purpose.

He's a bully sometimes and I don't like that. Also sometimes he pretends he's a Christian when it makes him look good, but I've never heard him share his conversion story or even talk about attending church. I think he's a Christian in name only, if I have to guess. I'm not deciding his salvation.

Agreed. People like he and Dave Ramsey might have morsels of truth to offer, but their smug way they relay it turns many off, including those that agree with them.

My problem with the message from Rush Limbaugh is that is has no edifying purpose. He's a pot stirrer. He divides.

He's referenced watching the NFL with watch a gang fight between Crips and Bloods. He's joked about the Michelle Obama's weight, body shape, and how her clothes emphasize her body. He's called people retards. He's called women lazy cats who don't have to do anything except show up for meals and petting and who don't have to work. He's made terrible remarks about the President that are inappropriate. I for one do not like President Obama, but the focus in getting him out should be on what he is doing wrong, not calling him a "halfrican American" or "Barack the Magic Negro".

It's all appears to be just for shock value.

And - so what? A dozen or more other "entertainers" from all political flavors do the same thing.

My beef with Rush? He seems to believe that he speaks for the conservative camp. He doesn't.

I guess it's really my beef with people supposedly in the same camp as myself. There are men and women who hang on every word that HE says and then turn around and get mad when liberals do it. Why are we, as the right, going to get hot and bothered when the left does or says stupid things and then defend Rush when he does it?

Well, this kind of trash talk is either wrong or it isn't.

My opinion is that NNE should get away with it. And certainly NNE of any political persuasion should claim to lead their party by being a shock jock.

He just makes us all look so bad.

I think Rush says what a lot of us would like to say but would never do in public, so we allow him to do it. I have to admit sometimes I get that Cheshire Cat grin inside when he says something off color. Or I use to when I listened to him regularly.

I understand that. I've grinned myself sometimes at Bill O'Reilly when he's said things in a way that he shouldn't.

I guess my point it that we going to have to allow everyone - both left and right - to do so, if we make an allowance for one.

Rush is OUTRAGEOUS!

Which is, of course, why he is so successful.

He bills himself FIRST as an entertainer, and as such, he is rather mild in comparison to others who make their living by merely speaking commentary, whether comedians or commentators with a more liberal bias.

But, those who listen know that he laughs at himself -- often. Those that actually take some of the more outrageous things he says seriously (other than when he is actually right about political matters, which is OFTEN) are either not regular listeners or persons who take themselves too seriously.

Rush has never made a big play on his faith. That really isn't pertinent to the discussions that he holds. I doubt that he is in the same camp as many of us on that issue, but I also doubt that he is some raging atheist. I expect that his personal life MUST BE guarded and that his "stage presence" is just that, but he is not overtly Christian, even when he takes up causes that Christians need taken up.

His buffonery is his means to get at the point, and yes, he does so with innuendo, funny allagories, downright nasty statements, and whatever else will get the point across. He does so on purpose.

But all of that being said, I would take Rush on my side in a heart beat over virtually any other national media personality. Rush has NEVER WAVERED in all his years in broadcast, and supports not the Republican Party, as he is so often accused of, but rather the Conservative American way that many of us wish to see in ascendency once again in our nation.

I've never liked his term "Femi-Nazi". He uses imagery that is demeaning to women. He's often made merciless fun of Hillary's physical appearance--"lard @ss", etc. He's said that one of the reasons for feminism is so that ugly women can get jobs in the media.

He uses innuendo, leading questions, false premises to make his "arguments".

One of his oft-used phrases is: "You just know if this was <Hillary, lefty, union leader, insert anything> that the media would give them a pass on it."

He'll say something like, "I just heard the other day, I don't remember where..." and then say something outrageous.

There's nothing of value for the believer in listening to people like Rush. Just like so many conservatives complain about listening to "liberals" (even fluff and stuff preachers) we should be reminded to apply the same criteria to Rush.

What about how they treated Sarah Palin? She is a woman, right? How did you treat her? Jump on board with the rest of the trash talkers?

Even Hillary got a dose of her own medicine when she came up against the Obama machine last election. She was utterly shocked when they called HER the "c" word and worse, just becasue she had the gall to run against the "annointed one."

Although I don't agree with all his tactics and speach, I feel you are wrong here. He is the voice of conservatism for a lot of people, and he does it well--getting across the fight against liberalism. I would never want him to be taken off the air, I just choose not to listen too much anymore. There are too many good Christian talk shows on air now.

He says he only uses it for particular women but it doesn't matter. The use of Nazi anywhere in describing someone nowadays is a slur and is offensive.

I thought she was wonderful, a breath of fresh air, and a rock-ribbed conservative. Then she sold out to the almighty dollar and I lost respect for her.
