I don't agree with that at all. Most rural "bumpkin" Churches that you'll find will have solid, basic doctrine. That's why most rural areas vote against the Dems.

Whenever I go into a city with 1000+ people in it, the Churches start to go nutty. When an area urbanizes and "educates" itself you get woman preachers and sodomite teachers.

I think the federal-level election maps show that fairly well.

its funny, My wife and I all the time laugh at people who have preacher speak. We joke that when they go to semenary that have to take a class on how to speak to your church, because almost all of them when they preach have the same accent, pronunciation and you will see many use the same old english as the King james

its a joke in my circles

I grew up with folks in the assembly praying with thee and thou as if God would listen to them in KJV speech better then a heart cry.

Had a well known now nearly dead pastor who had a habit of adding "uh" after words when he was forcefully pushing his voice.

    Both were annoying and distracting.

Speech classes in college are very helpful IF the instructor is actually focused more on delivery then what is delivered.

Note to self: Shout and gesture wildly at this weak when delivering this post so folks will respond with agreement.

    :)

IF the man were some hick that always talked that way, I'd have no prob with that, but he only does it when he preaches, which is LESS-THAN-HONEST, & anyone preaching should be honest as possible. And this man should know there are very few in this area who speak hilljackese all the time, & those that do can understand proper English just fine.

I can't argue that point. Maybe these college-educated preachers are trying to sound like the ol' folks back home, but it's still a pretense. They should talk the same on Sunday as they do the rest of the week, without putting on a show with their language. On that note, I don't mind if they pray in King James English if that is what they are comfortable with.

It reminds me of the country music singers who grow up in the San Francisco Bay Area of California, move to Nashville, Tennessee, and suddenly sound as if they were born and raised in the South.

Many educated people fall victim to false doctrine.

There's only the one Christian radio station in this area. And I AM interested in the message, no matter how bad the preacher is, or how wrong the message is, so if there's a public forum for that preacher or show, I can express my disagreement with it, & why.

Both sets of my grandparents are from the south, so I've been to the kind of churches roby is talking about many times. Down south they call it "hacking" preaching. Here's an example...

I would be interested in asking him "WHY do you do it?"

I've lived "down South" over half my life, some of it in Augusta, GA, and most of it here in the Murfreesboro, TN area. I have only seen this kind of "hacking" done in predominantly African American churches. I have only witnessed it in ONE predominantly white church, and I've NEVER heard the statement made.....Don't know where you've been...but I've been all over the South in services, and have never heard it.
