Advice from a spiritual child

My wife’s sister and my wife, have both been saved for about 30 years or so, and although they both started out in a Baptist Church, years ago my sister in-law wanted more excitement in worship, so she soon started attending a Charismatic Church.

Well, here 30 years later, she is still a baby Christian, who’s life is a mess, because she doesn’t take her walk with the Lord seriously.

The other day, my wife showed her 1Timothy 2:12, thinking that maybe, if she saw the truth about her choice of denominations, she would wake up to what life is all about.
--------------------------------------------------
Well my sister in-law had some advice for my wife........
“You need to stop being so nit-picky about the Bible.”
--------------------------------------------------
Being “nit-picky” about the Bible and Bible Doctrine, has resulted in my wife and I having a wonderful life in Christ, with all the joy & peace & contentment, that a person could ever want.
While EVERY other Christian, who takes a laxidasical view of life, is miserable.

You can't blame the worship style and non-KJVO views for someone's difficulties.

Usually there are far more significant spiritual issues going on that work themselves out. We must be graceful in dealing with these because it usually isn't that cut and dry. :)

This is one reason I see Charismatics as false teachers. Interestingly, I just finished a book by Jonathan Edwards entitled "The Religious Affections" and in the last part of the book, under "objection 1" he dealt with this theology of "experience" versus a genuinely converted soul and the affections that follow such.

Charismatic teaching is false teaching. Even if they are your "buddies."

BTW, Jonathan Edwards called these folks "enthusiasts" and delineated them as being false teachers, and not true followers of Christ, and not having nor showing true saving graces. So he too dealt with the same things even in his day. Today we call them charismatics. Same false teaching, new packaging.

- Blessings

In spite of your best efforts you will not be able to remain my adversary long reading Edwards.

His Treatise on Religious Affections is great.

He does argue FOR the merits of emotionialism in that treatise too. He just says that it ought to be tempered with a dedicated life.

No one slammed anyone friend.

You're not familiar with Charismatics, and their doctrine?

Perhaps read the book I mentioned and find out their beliefs. They are also word-faith in belief.

Since you read it Preach, why not take a little time to outline some important elements.....sorry but I have much to do but I will add it to my ever growing list...oye

Shucks, my efforts are foiled.

Stating that he gave merit to it needs to be qualified, lest a Charismatic sees this and says "Yes, see!"

He didn't give merit to their brand of emotionalism.

Wow, we could might be friends!!!!! Ima go get a daisy and pull off the petals one at a time!!! :flower:

Get offline and go read it.

I'd have to charge you to outline it for you.

Go get your "Jonathan Edwards is my Homeboy!" t-shirt too.

There are also some who attend a conservative Baptist church and yet remain babes in Christ. Oh yes they emphasize the Bible but only a particular version of it. They insist on 'standards' that at best could be described as extra-biblical. They tend to have a Pharisaical attitude toward any other church or persons who do not attain to these so called 'standard.' With that said, I agree with the fact that one should not be seeking an experience at church based in emotionalism except that that emotion be triggered by a real encounter with the one true and living God. In Isaiah 6, before Isaiah had an experience, he had an encounter. However I don't think one can say that when Isaiah saw the Lord, hign and lifted up, that it didn't affect his emotions.

This should not be shocking. This attitude which you are telling about is what is now in most today who claim to know Jesus. Sadly in my opinion they are all lost.

Good morning SRBooe

The link you provided, does “try” to paint a good picture of a charismatic(Pentecostal) church(having been supplied by one), yet even it reveals one of their biggest errors........

“1. Desire for a Manifestation of the gifts of the Holy Spirit:
1 Corinthians 12:7-11 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all: for to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit, to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills.
A charismatic church is open, and gives opportunity, to the manifestation of the Holy Spirit in its services. That manifestation could be a message spoken in tongues and interpretation, prophesy, laying on of hands, healing, or a miracle.”

Jesus said.......
Matthew 12:39
“But he answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas:”

Strangely enough, even though a lot of the Pentecostals that I have met, seem to be decent people, many in their leadership are “evil and adulterous”!

The Lord knew what He was talking about.

Hello sag38

You said.......

Indeed, it is correct, that Spiritual immaturity is not only found in Charismatic Churches, but.......

Praise the Lord, the Bible gives us a clear description of this kind of Christian, so as to easily identify them; But nowhere in this Biblical description, is there any mention of a Pharisaical attitude or ascribing to particular standards........
1 Corinthians 3:1-3
V.1 ¶ And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, [even] as unto babes in Christ.
V.2 I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able [to bear it], neither yet now are ye able.
V.3 For ye are yet carnal: for whereas [there is] among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men?

--------------------------------------------------
Carnality is not limited to any particular Church or denomination; Also carnality is both the cause & effect of Spiritual immaturity.

Sure enough, every immature Christian that I have ever know, has had a big problem with carnality.
