Actually, there WAS a time that I used to drink. I never drank more than two drinks because I HATE any feeling of even the beginning of a buzz. I get migraines as well so I need to be careful that I don't drink too much so one would be fine, a second after a few hours would be OK but two right in a row in an hour would get me starting on a migraine.

But a glass of wine with dinner (I tended to like them as spritzers so there was less alcohol but it still tasted yummy), one beer with a pizza or a mixed drink as we were sitting on the boat was nice. I'm one who loves the taste - as much as I love the taste of Coke or a nice freshly brewed cup of iced tea. But as with alcohol, I limit the amount of Coke I drink because it's just too much sugar. Fortunately, I don't need to limit the tea unless it's after 6 pm. :D

What would be missing in a Christian's life if they have to have two pieces of pie? It's just because it's yummy. If it's in moderation, it's not an issue. :)
Interesting comparison. Two pieces of pie to a fifth of whiskey. So is it blueberry, apple, or peach pie that kills others on the highway, destroys families, and ruins careers? Maybe it is three or more slices.

Diabetes and cholesterol DO kill more people than alcohol in this country every year.

So yes gluttony truly is a more deadly sin in this culture than drunkenness.

Facts always get in the way of emotion based positions.

The first time i was ever around drinking church people i was invited to go out of state with a member of this church as they were having a preachers conference. Several members of each church involved met at a motel for rooms during the weekend conference. To pass away time between nightly services everyone would gather in one of the rooms to get re-aquanted and talk, so i was told. But it turned out to be happy hour as the members plus preachers supped on their beer. I dismissed myself and went back to my room. Some years later i was working on a construction site with one of these beer drinking church members and he was driving a truck hauling gravel with two lost men and they were stopping between hauls at a beer joint, each one taking turns buying a six pack. I had been witnessing to the two lost men but i sure got a ear full after this happened. They told me that if christians drink then they would just stay lost, because there was no difference in the two.

I always wonder about the drink but not get drunk approach. Does that mean it's okay to watch porn if you don't get hooked?

Or is it okay to smoke marijuana as long as you don't get high?

Etc.,etc.

I always got the impression that saying that gives the impression of subjectivity and not absoluteness.

Why open the door for maybes not just on this issue but all others? if moderation is okay for drinking, then why not for other things?

As for stomach pains, it is not the alcohol that helps. Fermented alcohol is poison to the body PERIOD.

The restveratrol is what helps. But it is found in grape juice and other unfermented drinks too. So the same effect can be obtained without drinking alcohol.

So what's the purpose in casually drinking? I've never known an alcoholic who didn't start out as a casual drinker.

And I would think this to be what most lost people think about Christians. Casual drinking may be casual to some of us, but lost people are gonna look at you and assume you get just as drunk as they do.

Is it so important that we have a drink that we risk being a stumbling block? And who wants to deal with someone who says one thing while secretly doing another at home?

For those who think no alcohol should be consumed, where is your scriptural references? When Jesus turned water into wine, do you think it was grape juice?

They told me that if christians drink then they would just stay lost, because there was no difference in the two.

Then someone was preaching to them the wrong Gospel. If someone only equates Christ with not drinking, someone needs to teach them the truth and it has nothing to do with alcohol.

If you lust, you sin.

Or is it okay to smoke marijuana as long as you don't get high?

If you disobey the law, you sin.

It is only repeating the Scriptures.

It is ok where the Bible says it is. It is not ok where the Bible says is is not ok.

As for stomach pains, it is not the alcohol that helps. Fermented alcohol is poison to the body PERIOD.

It is not. It is actually beneficial to some and doctors will prescribe moderate intake for some patients.

The restveratrol is what helps. But it is found in grape juice and other unfermented drinks too. So the same effect can be obtained without drinking alcohol.

If you are looking for heart benefits but for stomach, as in the case of Timothy, it would be the alcohol to help a stomach issue.

So what's the purpose in casually drinking? I've never known an alcoholic who didn't start out as a casual drinker.

I don't know someone who was an anorexic who didn't start out trying to lose a couple of pounds. But not everyone starting a diet will become anorexic nor will every casual drinker become an alcoholic.

22 Abstain from all appearance of evil. 1 Thess. 5:22

I just don't see how a Christian would get past the appearance of being one who gets drunk?

Why do you think the enemies of Jesus accused him of being a drunkard, among other things? Was it because he only drank water?

If you buy alcohol, you are helping to keep liquor stores open that kills innocent victimes everyday in auto accidents on the streets. You are not part of the solution, but part of the problem.
