All Southern Baptist Leaders Affirm Greear's Statement on George Floyd Death

Mr. Floyd's treatment was deplorable. It appears to me that someone, in a self sacrificing way, should have rushed in and kicked the cop in the teeth, who had Mr. Floyd's neck under his knee.
The SBC's intentions may be good but racism is not the problem with dirty cops. I watched a video two or three years ago where heavily armed cops in a hotel killed a white man who was already face down on the floor, wearing nothing but his underwear, hands behind his back, and crying and begging the cops not to shoot. They found a BB gun in his room.
Something is amiss at the SBC when their response is p.c. racism agenda and no biblical admonition.

I agree.

That reminds me that I need to make a thread on the use of excessive force by first responders. I have been the victim of such. No permanent marks except a case of PTSD. A hell all its own.

The problem is an automatic assumption of racism (ignoring that the 4 officers were of 4 different races).

There is an issue of racism. But evil is deeper than racism (which is an evil). Broadbrushing evil as racism will never get to the heart if the matter. The same spirit is behind the hatred - all hatred (both the murder of Mr. Floyd and the riots that followed).

The SBC is just playing politics (as usual).

Something is weird about the entire thing. If he couldnt breathe due to being choked, he could not talk either. The officers handled the situation terribly. Cause of death was not asphyxiation. Nothing adds up. The officers knee was obviously not choking him. I really dont know why they kept him on the ground. I never left handcuffed people on the ground because our county was involved in a hog tying death when I was still in the academy. It made me paranoid. When I worked the road, I was 275 lbs, solid, and was not scared to go toe to toe with anyone. These little pip squeak officers were definitely scared. I saw being able to bench 475 lbs as part of the job.
I rarely had to fight anyone that was not high on something or was not wanted or in the process of committing a very serious crime. You can talk 99% of people into the car without using any force.

It was hateful to be sure. But assuming is was racial is not what Christians should be doing. We need to follow the evidence.

Yes, you said this and I affirmed it. He was not choked to death. He was choked and stressed out to the point it caused him to die. That's murder. Had the cop followed proper guidelines and not been heartless, he would still be alive today. That's what's going to be argued in court.

Its going to be an uphill battle. The stress occurred during the fight, not while laying on the ground. The officer knew he was in medical distress and kept him on the ground awaiting medical to arrive. Thats what the defense will say.

Not true. Mr. Floyd was bigger and stronger than the cop. He kept moving trying to save himself. When you're on bottom and being choked, you don't stand still. You move around, trying to keep them off balance.

I am telling you what his defense will be. He did not have his knee in his neck choking him. He had his knee bridging his neck restraining him. IMO it was improper, but not a deliberate choke. Not much weight either. Weight is on the foot. I was taught that restraint, but never used it outside the classroom and the gym.
