First you say that he did not own slaves and then you say that he did own slaves and then you ask why the big memorials to a slaveholder are a problem for the Democrats in Chicago. Did you ever play connect the dots? The greatest Democrat ever to come out of Illinois was a slaveholder and the Democrats are proud of him--you yourself noted all of the wonderful things that he did.

I'm from KY. I had ancestors on both sides in the Civil war. Sadly, one died at the Battle of Appomattox Court House right before the end of the war.

As to "documented facts--" only a very limited number of people know for certainty; those who saw the acts. And is there really any such thing as a documented fact of human interactions? Just as an example, consider the Warren Commission Report. Although I believe its *conclusion*, a majority of Americans don't. But it is, at its best, a conclusion; not a fact, such as gravity or air.
