Are You a Fundamentalist?

I'm sorry, but I still don't understand who this forum is for, and who should and shouldn't participate in it.

Is this forum for "independent fundamental baptists", ie. those who attench churches who pride themselves on being "independent, fundamental" with all the connotations that implies?

Or is this for anyone who believes in Christian "fundamentals" (which "fundamentals" are required for this forum)?

Please help me out, I still don't understand.

This thread was supposed to be a sort of roll call. With some posters it's easy to tell, and with many others it's not. This list was not meant to be a discussion of Fundamentalism vs. Fundamental, Independent Churches or any other interpretation .... It turned in that direction...and that's not a big deal really. I was just reading the moderator thread and wanted to vote for someone to fill the position...but, had very little idea who aligned themselves with the "Fundamental Baptist" title. As far as "Independent" I threw that in because I didn't know that they didn't always go together.

As far as someones question of who can post here...that's not for me to decide. I would venture a guess that if anyone considers them selves to be a Fundamental Baptist...that would be enough of a criteria. But, as I said... that's just my opinion.

I was called a heretic by a certain poster because I don't go along with Calcedon and the Roman Catholic Church on another thread up above (quite a MAJOR INSULT). Hardly think RCC goes along with Fundamentalism as pertaining to Baptists. Just my 2 cents & BIG WHINE!

I think that why this is so hard to figure out, is because the word "fundamental" means different things to different people.

Who gets to decide which of those items, or others that others might list, are "fundamental"?

Christ never did and currently does not have divine blood. This was discussed on another thread. The Scripture says that he became a partaker of the same flesh and blood. Do you have divine blood. Remember, God is spirit.

BTW, this has absolutely nothing to do with fundamentalism except that it makes us all look bad when we persist in unbiblical ideas.

The only thing worse than this was the idea that animals are saved and raptured with the church. I won't mention the name.

If we claim a literal interpretation, let us do that and leave this other stuff for the liberals to blindly go through. We are to edify. Bizarre ideas do not edify but only give place to arguments. Truth builds people up and gives them a solid foundation.

Christ had human blood. There is no such thing as divine blood. If you believe it, provide the Scripture and explain yourself. Otherwise, drop it.

also Brian as to the question who decides if these points are fundamental my answer is that the Word has already decided.

I believe I adhere to all the fundelmentals of the faith. But you might not consider me a fundlementists because . . .

1) I read other translations beside the KJV (in fact I hardly ever read the KJV)

2) SCRIPTUALLY, I can't decide between a pre and post tribulation rapture. I have been taught by Godly and loving men on both sides. For personal reasons, I am voting for pretrib because I have no desire to be around in the tribulation.

3) I read Biblical commentaries, not just the Scofield Reference Bible and or Strong Concordance with a good Bible dictionary.

4) While I disagree very strongly with some of their theology, I believe Augustine, Luther, Calvin, Edwards and others were great men who were used powerfully by God and I continue to read and be edified from their many writings.

5) I believe Lutherans and Presbyterians are going to heaven, even though God is going to mad at them when they get there.

6) I believe that men and women are saved the same way in any dispensation, by faith through grace made possible by the sacrifice of Christ, whether they were looking forward or back as we are.

I'll let you vote. I won't be to upset if you kick me off, I spend too much time on these boards anyway.

Two points:
- "the word" and one's interpretation of the word are two different things.
- even though everything in scripture is true, not everything in scripture is "fundamental". Fundamental deals only with those things that are central, the foundations. Who here gets to decide which doctrines are central, and which are secondary?

1. What do you mean by "divine?" Do you mean Christ was not 100% human?

2. By abortion do you mean elective abortion, or all abortion?

3. By homosexuality do you mean the orientation or the act?

Interesting illustration of your objection. You object to the unbiblical idea of "divine blood" but post your own unbiblical idea about a "rapture of the church." Can't find that in the bible!

As far as the rapture goes, I am pretty sure I remember reading something about being caught up (rapture in Latin) in the air and also being changed in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye. If it was my own belief I could be wrong, but since I agree with Scripture on this one, I am not.

I agree. However, that is not what you said. You said the "rapture of the church." You cannot find any reference anywhere in the bible concerning a "rapture of the church." You can find the rapture of all the saints, but not just church saints. In fact, the idea of only church saints being raptured is one of the more venal of the partial rapture theories.

I can't figure out if I am or not. I think I've got the "fundamentals" covered (in my own opinion), but I know I often disagree with other "fundamentalists" on a great many subjects. So I'm going to feel free to post here until someone tells me to take a hike.

I think a lot of people are of the opinion that there will be someone deciding who can post and who can not... and that there will be votes and such to boot people out of here. I honestly have no idea where that comes from.

I think if you think you might be a Fundamental Baptist and would like to post here...than post. And as far as people giving you the invitation to leave... Unless someone has that authority... I wouldn't pay them any head.

BrianT, I read somewhere that you don't know what a fundamental Baptist is... I think that is a really good question... I just posted that question on another thread...I'm interested to see what people have to say as well.
