Are You "Really" Saved?

A small percentage of those who claim the name of Christ are really saved. We can never know a man's heart, but we are charged to make certain judgments for the purpose of the Lord's work. We cannot properly witness without making such a discernment in many instances. We need to know with whom we are speaking and to whom we are witnessing. "Are you a Christian" is the WRONG question, because you most likely will get the answer yes, in most instances. Why should it be any different in this group? One could almost guarantee that some are UNSAVED without ever reading a word about this (or any other) group.

So, I'd like to ask EACH ONE of you this:

"Are you 100% sure if you died, today that you would go to heaven"?

That sort of narrows down the answers, doesn't it?

If you can't answer that question in the affirmative, you most probably have never accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, because you CAN know for sure by God's word.

Please allow me to show you more. It may be NEW to some of you, so read it carefully.

Recognize Your Condition
No one is good enough to go to Heaven on his/her own merit. No matter how much good we do, we still fall short.
"Romans 3:23 For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God."

Realize the Penalty for Sin
Just as there are wages for good, there is punishment for wrong. The penalty for our sin is eternal death in a place called Hell.
"Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death..."

Believe Christ Died for You
Christ's great love for us was shown when He died on the cross to pay our sin debt.
"Romans 5:8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us."

Trust Christ Alone as Your Savior
Everlasting life is a gift purchased by the blood of Jesus and offered freely to those who call upon Him by faith.
Romans 6:23 ... But the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Romans 10:13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

See how simple it is? Even a child can understand it. If you follow those steps in sincerity and with a broken and contrite heart, ask Jesus to save you, you will be saved..........eternally. And there will be a change in your heart, soul and mind. If there has been no change, something is terribly wrong and you need to examine yourself.

Are you just going through the motion of being "christian" in your own will and power? We need to ask ourselves that question.....until we can get it settled FOREVER.

Bro.Jim....thank you for posting God's way of salvation in a clear, concise, and direct manner. My only regret is that you should have posted it up in the "General Discussion" part of the forum so it would get a wider exposure. This section of the BB is not the most widely read part of the Board. As for me, I know that on Oct.13, 1977 I passed from death unto life by the grace of God and my Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ. I will praise Him eternally for opening my eyes and my heart to the truth and giving me the faith to trust Him.(Eph.2:8-9)
This....or something LIKE THIS OUGHT to be the kind of answer that SHOULD be offered by ANYBODY who truly knows Christ....AMEN? By and by, the evidence is seen in the changed lives of the believer though I will acknowledge that the "growth rate" differs many times depending on the individual. My own personal life since I was saved has been quite a roller-coaster. I can't say I have always been a good testimony for Christ or the most faithful of servants for Him....but I can absolutely attest to the FACT that He has been Faithful 1000% of the time! Thank God for our FAITHFUL, Righteous, Holy God!

I don't see this posed in any Gospel presentation in Scripture.

Does scripture explicitly state that our solar system is heliocentric? Does scripture inform us that our universe is expanding? There are multitudes of things that scripture is completely silent about.

Asking a simple pointed, and poignant question regarding someones confidence about eternity is hardly a violation of scripture.

I'm not a big fan of guaranteeing somebody salvation for following a formula but, over all, not a bad post.

I know the word and based on what I said, it wasn't necessary to use it.

You can't be headed North and deliberately turn and go South with out doing it.

A person can't walk down the Roman's Road and accept it without doing it.

I don't think folks even bother to "think" about the logic behind it.

Funny, Jesus seemed to believe it was pretty important. After all, He said His purpose for coming was to call sinners to repentance and then told another group of folks that they'd perish if they didn't repent.

Help me out with concept of "repentance". Around here, a frankly personally too, I run into a good bit of tension on the topic. Around here, if one focuses on things which are thought to demonstrate "repentance" then they are often charged with operating under a salvation of works. On the other hand, if they don't they are charged with "easy believism". Could you provide any clarity on the matter (from your perspective)

"Godly sorrow worketh repentence". Repentence is just a change or heart, mind or direction. And it is a work of the HS. No man comes to the father except that he is called.

Yep, it seems like around here there is not agreement with ANYTHING simply to be disagreeable! When someone says you can't come to Christ without repentence, that is true, but what point does that make, except that they don't understand! I tried to make it as plain as I could, but it seems that some still just can't grasp it. And, clearly, we can grasp NOTHING unless the HS teaches up. That is why there are so many disagreements. The HS isn't gonna teach you one thing and me another and call it truth.

While it is TRUE that man must repent to be saved the same that someone going north can't go south without "repenting". So, it doesn't need to be preached, because turning doesn't mean anything unless one turns from one thing to another. So, if a sinner asks God to save him, that very act is repentance because he has had a change of heart. And all of this must, of course be sincere. However, there are too many folks who profess salvation who has never been touched by the HS. It's HEAD knowledge and that and $3 will get you a cup of coffee most places. I have an Idea you know exactly what I'm saying.

Those that DON'T have a serious problem about eternity.

I've seen this heresy in some SBC churches -- teaching repentance isn't necessary, only believe, and/or, that repentance is only for the Jews, not Gentiles, so we only need to believe, not repent. I've heard they get this heresy from N T Wright. Nevertherless desertim is in the same mix preaching the same false gospel.

If we can't carry on a Christ-like discourse on here, we do GOD, ourselves and all others a TOTAL disservice. And if we don't know what it takes to be saved, then we shouldn't even talk about it.

Perhaps your understanding of "repentance" was the same as mine was all through my childhood. I was raised in church and I didn't know the definition of repentance until I was a full fledged adult. I thought it was "being sorry" for my wicked ways. Actually, if you look at the definition of the word, that doesn't fit. I still don't think you can divorce the two because "Godly sorrow worketh repentance". The Holy Spirit will bring about "repentance", not man, not preaching. Thank God for it, but thank God for the air we breathe, too, and we don't really have to tell anyone to breathe. When someone turns to God, and we ask them to do that all the time, we are preaching repentance. If someone comes to God he has ALREADY repented and may not have EVER heard the word nor even knows what it means. If you disagree with this, that's fine. I don't have to work with YOUR understanding. I have to work with God's word and the salvation message. When someone comes to God, he need not know the word propitiation, for example, but it's certainly as much a part of our salvation as is repentance.

"Turn or Burn" is a repentance message. I wouldn't use those words, but they are common, I guess.

how about 'Mr baptist", Charles Spuiegfeon, whose witness was that he heard a "ploughboy" preaching to have sinners "look to Christ and be ye saved", Spurgeon said that he turned to look at Christ and got saved!
