Safe--because of Jesus--who will keep His sheep even through the fire.

However, I now keep a round in the chamber instead of just in the magazine.

Even so, come, Lord Jesus.

But instead I got the believers version of chest thumping. So sad that people can't be honest....

It is not chest thumping or dishonest when I say that I feel safe. I do - as safe as I have ever felt in a broken fallen world.

And I don't even own a firearm.

Can't help but think of this beautiful old hymn -

Perhaps I got this all wrong. Because it was posted in the 'Baptist discussion' section I assumed it dealt with our true safety and protection which is ever and only in Christ.

I think often when we talk about feeling safe there is a plethora of things attached to it. Things like politics, piety, denial of reality, as well as hyper focus on the negative, and weariness. We can recognize the lack of safety in the world and or directly around us and still be at peace because of our intimacy with God. In fact recognizing the lack of safety does not automatically means this is a result of fear.

We can see that terrorism is a serious threat and it can, right now, strike us without warning. I do not feel safe in that there is no threat of terrorism that can reach me. Such an attitude would be absurd and delusional. It can and the possibility is very real. However, in the midst of this reality I can and do retain my peace.

I know that most of those thumping and beating their chest, also carry weapons, and hey ONLY carry them, because they may feel the need to go to the range for some shooting, but certainly not because they want to protect themselves and their families?

I may be having a moment, but I am a bit confused by this. It reads as a statement, but ends with a question mark.

Published authors often start out a sentence with "I know..." and then it ends up being a question.

And my suspicion is based on what I have seen you do.

And my response is that your response is jaded by your bias towards me stepping on your toes as I'm prone to do with most on here from time to time. But it's all good.

Okay, I'll play.

Yes I feel safe.

[Chest thumping] First and foremost I am safe in the arms of Jesus no matter what happens.[/Chest thumping]

Secondly I have taken the Lord's advice in Luke 22:36 and provided for myself and my loved ones a means of self-defense.

I carry a sidearm any time I am not in my own home. And, yes, Brother James, I too carry in "condition one" - round in the chamber, cocked and locked. :)

And before preachinjesus accuses me of being a "crazy white male carrying guns (I) don't fully comprehend the consequences of operating" allow me to expand on my CV just a bit.

US Army Firearms Instructor, M14, M16, M1911a1, M79.

Certified Range Safety Officer.
State of California Department of Justice Certified Firearms Safety Instructor.
POST Certified California Peace Officer (POST = California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training. Now expired due to my retirement).
Certified Firing Line Coach, San Diego Police Range. (Expired since retirement.)
Certified Firearms Instructor, San Diego Police Range. (Expired since retirement.)
Certified Close Protection Agent. (Expired since retirement.)
Licensed to carry a concealed weapon in 38 states.

How's that preachinjesus? Do I have your permission to carry? :D

I do not remember you ever "stepping on my toes", as you say it. I have thicker skin than that.

I have no bias against you.

As my friend would say, "Doesn't matter. Your past is past. What is your current state of mind and health."

I have no problem with folks carrying weapons. Personally, I would like to see more laws allowing open carry.

What I do not think helpful is those who suffer mental, emotional, or health problems that impact the ability to be useful in defense of themselves and others yet allowed to carry. The same standard as applied to a driver's license.

But then, I'm quirky and personally think that every car should have a breath analyzer to prevent someone who has been drinking from even starting a vehicle much less driving.

Far more NRA folks kill innocents by irresponsibly driving intoxicated than their firearms ever will.

I am British, so I can't take part in the poll.
Yesterday, a guy went berserk with a knife in London and stabbed three people, one of whom was seriously hurt. He was confronted by police who do not routinely carry firearms. They overpowered him with the help of a tazer. I'm not sure yet if the guy was a Moslem or not, but it seems likely.

If he had had access to a semi-automatic weapon, how many people do you think would have been killed? Britons are by no means less violent than Americans, but it is very hard to obtain a gun of any sort over here for which I praise the Lord.

I realise from experience that this post is going to make me exceedingly unpopular in certain quarters.

There is a difference between and relatively small island nation and a nation which has two massive boarders that stretch across expanse of sparsely populated areas.

Texas, alone, is nearly twice the size of that small patch across the way.

:)

Actually, murders by firearms are actually "0" (last time I checked the statistics) of those who belong to the NRA (National Rifle Association) which has millions of members.

However, over 300,000 (MADD statistics) drive each day under the influence.

According to the US drunk driving stats, one person dies from a DUI every 48 minutes.

Seems to me, the cry of some who want to focus on gun violence is misplaced.

It is ridiculous that any vehicle is allowed to start without the driver proving they are not under the influence by a simple breath analyzer.

The British are the very reasons why we have the second amendment.
