The EMS agency I work for is not that way. System status management causes us to cover the entire city and more. GPS allows us to get to people quicker to help them faster.

This may sound like it has nothing to do with the op - but
in our church - we have pew Bibles - in the bulletin - it list my text I will be reading.
Well, the music director insist on putting in the page # from the pew Bible, in the bulletin.
in addition, when I announce the passage ( eg John 3: 1-16) I do not mention the
pew Bible page number - then the music director seems to think it is her responsibility
to stand up and give the page number.
I would like for the folks to be able to find the passage without the page number.
and now back to our regular scheduled argument.
Well some "scholars" doubt that it means what it appears to say.
It supposedly is a maneuver rather than a piece of equipment.

Your Pew Bible reasoning is identical to my GPS reasoning. Geographically speaking, I worked in one of the largest counties in GA. when I was at the Sherigfs Office. I knew every city street in the three towns in that county, every county road, and every named pig path.
Back in the '70's as a single missionary on deputation I was in Florida, trying to get to a little country church. Couldn't find it for the life of me. I finally stopped at a store and used a telephone to call and get some directions. The pastor guided me, and I finally arrived at the church. As I walked in the door, they were singing from an old shaped note hymnal, "I Cannot Find the Way Alone!"

But I'm pretty sure I prayed, too. I finally got around to reading this piece. Have any of you considered that she may be using hyperbole to make a point rather than being the crazed home-school mom some of your posts have insinuated? Maybe she doesn't mean a Google search is actually idolatry?

And the 'pew bible' reasoning is embarrassing to newcomers who don't know Jeremiah from Jude who sit there fumbling back and forth completely lost. The music director is doing a good thing, IMHO
On this, we disagree. I think it discourages learning the books of The Bible.
It's good for people to learn how to find the books of the bible. It is more important for people to be able to read the text and gain its message. I have watched newcomers give up looking for a passage and the people nearest them not offering any assistance. Put yourself in the newcomers shoes. Maybe a better time to encourage learning how to find ones way around the bible is in Sunday School or a bible study and not during the principal worship services in front of a large crowd.
I understand your point. I simply see it as another form of dumbing down education.
