Baseball Negro Leagues

No, even without BLM this is long overdue. It has long been noted that the Negro Leagues produced the same, if not better, caliber of baseball than the white major leagues of the day.
Just seems that will still be very hard to reconcile records though between the 2 leagues!

Would still see Hank as being the true home run king, as wasn't Oh hitting in a minor league field?
Well, a shorter outfield in many cases. The Giant's Tokyo Dome stadium is every bit as good as any MLB stadium, and better than some such as the old Twins stadium. (I've been to both.)

I met as in the paying size, as thought under 300 feet!

Would like to see the stats broken down in MLB to before jackie and after!
The movie “44”, was very interesting. If accurate, as they considered bringing Jackie Robinson to Dodgers organization, they decided to move him from shortstop (in Negro League) to second base (in minors) and first base (in majors) because his arm wasn’t strong enough for shortstop and the current second baseman was better.

The bottom line was they did what was best for the organization, moving the talent where it best helped the team.

peace to you

I cannot imagine what he heard while playing, and how they intentionally tried to spike and hit him in head with baseball!

He died a young man (50’s). I can only imagine the stress of continuous death threats to him and his family took its toll. He must have truly loved playing baseball.

peace to you

We've been to several of their stadiums. The Yokohama Baystars have a dingy, old stadium, but the Tokyo Giants (the Yankees of Japan) have an awesome stadium in Tokyo.

However, to be fair, their outfields are generally shorter than in the MLB. So Oh Sadayaru, though having the most home runs in professional baseball history, should have an asterisk by his name.
Bottom line, it just doesn’t translate. Sorry, JoJ, for both the pun and the fact, though I take responsibility only for the former. :Wink

All that matters is the Atlanta Braves are the longest running MLB franchise, and therefore the best team by seniority (with a little help of the Chicago fire, of course).

I thought they were recognized as major leagues since around 1970, when they starting naming a number of their players to the Hall of Fame. As for records, I do remember reading many times that most of them are not official, and indeed many that exist included barnstorming games, which were exhibitions. There would probably be too much conflict about computerizing it into how, for instance, if Satchel Page had pitched to Joe DiMaggio 200 times how that would have affected DiMaggio's batting average and Page's ERA; or in general how both the white and black league records would be lessened if the sport had been integrated all along and the best played against the best.
