Here in the Southern U.S (North Carolina), my general impression is that he is a typical politician that often flip flops of the conservative variety, and that he is a bit further right than May, but not as far right as Thatcher.
(For those in the U.S I believe "far right" in the UK would be "Mitt Romney/McCain" here.)
Regarding Brexit, my understanding is he was a fence straddler that only jumped on the Brexit side once it was a slim majority.
My personal opinion of him is that he is at least better than Corbyn haha. I think that Johnson is far enough "right" in the UK where he and Pres Trump's views will at least have some overlap on many issues. I think May's views were more like Hillary's and thus May and Trumps views had minimal overlap.
I hope our Special Relationship strengthens though. Many of my ancestors, like many Americans, came from Ulster (scots-irish), Ireland, and Cumbria/Northumberland. As such we consider y'all in the Old Country as family!
