How can sinners serve in your church?

Can Sinners Serve in your church?

How many embrace gluttony, lying, gossiping....lusting......?
We have three pastors, six deacons, and about 75 other people who teach s/s, Awana, VBS, mow grass, and all kinds of other things. Pus we have about three hundred members. Sinners, every one of us. You have people in your church that don't sin? Really? I'd like to meet them. I've never heard of even one person that's not a sinner!

I am a sinner .... repentant, born-again, washed in the crimson blood of the Lamb, and my name's been written in the Lamb's Book of Life! Until I die I will have to contend with a sin nature. A nature that will bring temptation, trials and ups and downs in my new life of faith. However, in the end, by HIs saving Grace, I will end up at the Narrow Gate, and because of what Jesus did on the cross for my sin, I will be allowed to enter in and share eternity with the one who loves me unconditionally!

Sinners can do any job in the church including being pastor.
However, an unrepentant sinner embracing their sin - not so much.

.... quite a few, to answer your question. And they may embrace these and other things both knowingly and unknowingly, directly and indirectly. And the truth is, this is why we are saved. God begins a work within each child of God to address these things, and through the process of sanctification, not only are we set aside for His Gory, but we begin the process of setting aside those things of the flesh that do not glorify Him!

Even yet, how many of those would we, like with the LGBT, tell them that they cannot serve in the church?
Sinners can do any job in the church including being pastor.
However, an unrepentant sinner embracing their sin - not so much.

We say this. But do we really judge them the same? Take for instance the glutton. He may say he's repentant. But oddly enough fat, gluttonous pastors keep growing in number and waist size.
If they were really repentant, wouldn't they be getting smaller?

What is a glutton? Can we define it? My husband is very overweight. He eats well - not in what I would say a glutton category but he is not small by any means. Part of the issue is being older and his metabolism changing. The other issue is a severely injured foot that causes him enough pain that he has a difficult time walking or standing for any period of time. He preaches sitting down. So while he has quite the Santa belly, I do not believe it is from gluttony although he does enjoy his little 1/2 cup of ice cream a few times a week. So is he considered a glutton? Because looking at him, you might decide that is his sin.
Being fat is not gluttony. There are a myriad of health issues that can cause one to be overweight.
Gluttony, derived from the Latin gluttire meaning to gulp down or swallow, means over-indulgence and over-consumption of food, drink, or wealth items to the point of extravagance or waste

You just hit at the heart of the matter. It's not for us to just look at someone and decide what sins they are guilty of. All have sinned and come short of the glory of God. It's for us to pray for each other.
If sinners cannot serve in the church then there will be no one serving in the church. There was only one person who ever lived who was not a sinner.
There are sins that are tolerated with no questions asked. There are sins that are not tolerate with no questions asked. Both of these vary from era to era.
Another question is, are people who have broken a law allowed to serve?

Almost every one in ANY church is a sinner, one way or the other, especially the 'hidden' sins, as above.
you can go down on your knees before bed, in the morning, before church, after church, and confess, confess, confess....but since you're swimming in a fallen world of all kinds of open and secret sins, in a fallen body that is a magnet for the filth........
so, yeah,secret sinners can serve in my church, whose head is a Gracious, Righteous, and Merciful King.
Up to Him to deal with them, and they with Him, and when He needs to expose sin, He will expose sin, THEN the church can deal with them, and they with the church.

a glutton is one who gorges himself with food simply because he WANTS to eat, not because he NEEDS to. weak def, but that's just about what I can say.
Back in the old country,I had two friends in different parts of the country I would call gluttons.
they both LOVE to eat, and could sit down for hours, eating, eating, eating, drinking, drinking, drinking, and when they get home, guess what ?
yeah, you guessed it.
they still eat lunch, or dinner, or whatever meal, after coming home from the resto, or a "barrio fiesta", where they already gobbled up loads of food.
They're regular pac-mans.
both of them need to have some kind of snacks nearby when going to bed.
like some heavy smokers, they wake up to reach for the snack, instead of a pack of cigarettes.
but they never gained any weight at all.
I don't know now, that was like 20 years ago, when we all wore younger men's clothes.
I don't know if the metabolism factored in already.
Because I know I gained weight, and I'm not a heavy eater, either.
One of them, I remembered, would need to have two or three heavy kerchiefs because he sweats buckets (figure of speech) when he eats.
