Are you really asking this? Seriously, are you really asking this question? Could you please stop with all the questions. If you want to discus something, give us something. Say something. If you want to discuss if the elect can die and go to hell, then give us YOUR opinion on the matter. We don't need someone to start a thread on the topic of Calvinism. We have too many already. You are now just trolling.

Why would the Apostle paul warn us against hardening our hearts and not be able to trust in Christ IF the elect will always come to Christ?

For your information, had non cal friend ask me this!

Thanks

The question is God's sovereignty vs mans' will. The elect will always come to him, but who is the elect? We don't know a person is elect until they believe. I know that God is sovereign and that I won't die until the day he want's me to die. But that doesn't mean I'm about to jump off the empire state building either.

Good Question

Folks, did you notice the Calvinists attempting to silence a question rather than answer it?

I did not see where any particular verse was referenced, so all these posts appear to be off the top of the head responses, rather than a well studied answer.

According to the false doctrine of Total Spiritual Inability, all the lost have no receptivity in the heart to harden, it is already hardened from conception. So right off we know the Calvinists will say Paul did not really mean what he said.

But if you study the verses that address loss of ability, and there are lots of them, you see that the lost have limited spiritual ability and can lose it, which yet again demonstrates the T of the TULIP is false doctrine.

Willis,
In regards to the OP...I would ask this.....

Can a person be saved and lost at the same time?
Can a person be elect and non elect at the same time?

If so......I would like to know what they were saved from....and what were they elected to????

This is a "lame duck" thread, imo. I don't think it will gather much in regards to quantity or quality. This thread is nothing more than a "fruitless vine", if you ask me. It needs to be cut off and cast into the fire.

actually, DO think this is valid to discuss!

was asked why would the elect be warned against not hardening their hearts and thus miss getting saved, IF they will all come to Christ any ways?

Was paul addressing the elect or not in that passage?

First, be accurate. Paul said:

Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God. But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.

The commandment isn't to believe, it's to take heed and to exhort. This is addressed to his "brethren." Those who have professed a faith and Christ, and who partake of the Lord's table.

Also 2 Cor 6:1-3

And working together with Him, we also urge you not to receive the grace of God in vain— 2 for He says,
“AT THE ACCEPTABLE TIME I LISTENED TO YOU,
AND ON THE DAY OF SALVATION I HELPED YOU.”

Behold, now is “THE ACCEPTABLE TIME,” behold, now is “THE DAY OF SALVATION”— 3 giving no cause for offense in anything, so that the ministry will not be discredited,

Apostle paul wanted them NOT to receive grace in vain...

How can the Elect receive it in vain?

NO, the Apostle Paul wanted the hearers to be sure they had actually been saved. That church had things in it that gave evidence that many were not saved. You can read the last chapter of this same letter to see Paul question their salvation. To receive it in vain is to acknowledge it with our lips, but not receive it from within, no real repentance.

Also for this same chapter Paul shows what he was speaking about in verses 17,18
Therefore go out from their midst, and be separate from them, says the Lord, and touch no unclean thing; then I will welcome you,
and I will be a father to you, and you shall be sons and daughters to me, says the Lord Almighty."

As to the question can the elect harden their heart and be lost? Absolutely not just like the elect cannot practice or return to the practice of sin 1John 3:9)! That would mean someone could lose their salvation and that cannot happen.
