The difference is the church talks about helping while the government actually does help!

If this is so with your church, then you need to find another church.

You cannot make a blanket statement about that without proof - and I can show you by my own church that this statement is a lie.

I can also show you how the government does NOT help where the church can.

What about people who don't go to church, non-believers? Where do they get help?

I sincerely think Robert would be bothered to find out there are churches doing what he thinks government ought to do...

Are you saying that your church will only help members?

Perhaps you should be looking for a new church.

Helping the unchurched is a great way to spread the Word.

Maybe his church, if he attends one, requests government guidelines on who to help.:tonofbricks:

Couldn't be more wrong on both counts.

The church couldn't possible provide the kind of help the government can because there are so few that are willing to give sacrificially to support those in nee. Just look at all the far right Republicans here. They wouldn't give a dime to help the poor.

Oh? I'm a "far right Republican" and I've done a ton to help the poor from housing people, to feeding them, to paying bills. What have you done? Oh that's right - the government will do it.

We don't ask to see anyone's "saved" card to receive help. Does yours?

Can't you right-wingers get anything straight? It is unlikely that people who have no interest in church would seek them out in an emergency. These are the ones I am talking about. If not the government, where would these people go?

You're not only a liar, you're an idiot. You have no idea what people give, but like the Pharisees, you continue to judge. What a bigot. You and anyone here who thinks like you.

I've given about $5,000 to a poor friend in my church who said he could no longer afford to live. Define "ton."

You'd be surprised. Churches are one of the first places many go - even those who are athiest and anti-church. They know of the goodness and generosity of many churches. When even the government can't help them, they know churches will.
