The thing about spring is that everything you don't want to grow comes up first!
AMEN!
Good morning all!
Spring cleaning turned into spring gardening. When you have days that are not too hot, not too cold, not wet, etc., go for it! Six of the seven vegetable planter boxes (they are five feet by eight feet, lined up against the outside of a pasture fence) have a new layer of aged compost in them, and four have the cleanings of the chicken house over that. One that just has the old compost layered got some lettuce starts, beets, chard and spinach transplanted into it from the winter garden and I even have attempted to transplant some very young carrots into it. Never heard of transplanting carrots before, but they were planted by Gina's oldest MUCH too close together to grow, so I scooped several dozen up and separated them (they are only a couple of inches high and not that long) and put them in the planter in between spinaches and in a spare space of their own. Got the tomatoes, melons and bell peppers started inside. Hoed out a good section of the fruit tree area.
Spring is busy outside.
In the meantime, a lot of the inside has been neglected so I have to discipline myself to stay IN and clean up in here. Got to get tax stuff organized for the accountant, too.
Which is why BB doesn't see much of me in the spring!
Geese are making constant noises overhead as V after V heads back north. Frogs are beginning to croak in the evenings.
Spring is springing! For some reason the winter seemed especially long this year, and I'm very glad to see it over. We lost some stuff during the severe January freezes (severe for us, Jim, is mild for you, I know....LOL), so I'll find hardier stuff to put in place.
But the heather is blooming, the crocuses are finished, the daffodils are starting and the hyacinth and grape hyacinth are doing fine. Green buds on many shrubs and the fruit trees will be in blossom soon. I love the promise of spring!
Sue, enjoy your remodeling and please be patient with the mess. And, believe me, sometimes it takes a LOT of patience!
God bless you all.
