Sure hope y'all get better soon! I am nursing my nephew tonight. He had some major dental work done on Friday and since they put him to sleep and did all of it at once he isn't much fun again yet. His parents are working on their house they are doing a major remodel! The day off of school did wonders though he is better than he was Sunday night.

Glad to hear your nephew is feeling better palagislandgirl.

MK: Hope yours are up and running today.

    Good morning all,

I canceled Brent's appointment with the nurse practitioner. I don't care for her and Brent's fever went down and stayed down. His throat was still a little scratchy, but I didn't figure they would give him any meds anyway without a fever.

He is going to school today and staying for two hours of basketball practice from 3:00 to 5:00. I told him to call me if he started feeling bad again and I would come and pick him up. He has something church or school-related to do the next four nights. It's like that every week.

It is 28º already and we're expecting a high of 42º. Can spring be far away???

    HAGD all!

    Good Morning,
I am checking in now because with all the errands that I have to do there is no telling when I will be back. My brother-in-law's birthday is tommorrow so I get to go order him a cake and hopefully will finish a table that I am working on refinishing. It is 57 now and supposed to warm up. I am going to enjoy the beauty of the day eventhough I will be on my allergy medicine! I had better go, gotta get my nephew up for school and my neice ready to go do errands with me.

    Have a Blessed Day!:godisgood:

    Good Morning Everybody,

It is 36 degrees here headed for a high today of 40. I agree with Sue, Spring is coming.

    Hopefully everybody is feeling better.

Hey Cuz, I guess you're right. Being as we were both born and bred in the great state of Michigan I guess we wouldn't be hillbillies. You live in Alabama which actually is in the South, and I live in south-central Michigan. You love mushrooms too?, WOW!!!
    now I know we're related.

I brought in Egg and Sausage Breakfast Strudel, Breakfast Calzones, and South-of-the-Border Quiche Squares. Enjoy. It's warming up do I make hot tea or sweet tea?

Tonight I'm attempting a new dinner. It's my first time making this meal, :praying: it works out. Herb-Roasted Chicken with Wild Mushrooms and Marsala, Mashed Sour Cream and Scallion Potatoes, Almond Citrus Salad, and Triple Coconut Cream Pie.

    Time to go grocery shopping.

    Good Morning Everyone!

Sue, lucky you and Brent! You are exactly right, without a fever (and sometimes even with) the doc would have called it a viral infection and sent you home with "magic mouthwash". My kids had rather have a sore throat than gargle with that stuff!

We are a mixed bag today. Cass is at school and is fine. Chris woke up with the migraine that threatened yesterday. But, he woke up so that is a good sign. When he is deep into one he is impossible to wake. He is now medicated and back to bed and I already have e-mailed his teachers.

Jenna is a puzzle. After running fever all day yesterday and having it spike above 102 again last night, she doesn't have even a bit this morning and the thermometer reads just 97.6. I know the advil I gave her last night can't possibly still be affecting her. It's been 12 hours. She is whiney as all get out this morning. And still coughing, but not nearly as bad. I just bet, that when we get to the doc today he tells me that she picked up something "viral" and this is a whole separate problem from the cough we treated just 12 days ago.

I have two dresses to hem this morning and run across town. Still don't know if I should cancel my smocking class, or just postpone it till after school. Got to decide that before we head to the doctor.

    Thanks for breakfast Cuz!

    I'll see ya'll later!

Our snow is melting and I was able to take the kids to school without wearing a coat over my sweatshirt! So nice not dragging along a bulky coat everywhere.

None of us are sick right now, knock on wood! Hope the rest of you who are ill feel better soon.

It's supposed to rain here isn't it ABC?
I hope it doesn't flood with all the snow on the ground.

We're due to get rain here at some point too, Tim, so I'm getting the teens outside to work on clearing our one basement window that tends to let water in the basement in these kind of conditions (ice then rain).

Other than that, it's warming up here today (it's already in the 40s!) so we'll try to clear off some of the driveway after lunch since right now it's a sheet of ice. I had to have DH pull into the garage with his car yesterday so we didn't have to carry the new medicine chest across ice and possibly drop it. We're not sure we're keeping it so we need to keep it returnable if need be. We're trying to finish up 2 bathroom remodels - gotta say, this stuff costs a fortune!! We already have a toilet for the 1/2 bath but in the end, it will probably cost us about $8-900 to do it! Yikes!! And the full bath will top out at almost $16,000. But both NEEDED to be done and they both are going to look fantastic. I just need to see if a friend of ours can help because it turns out the new light fixture in our full bath is too low to put up the medicine chest and Bob just doesn't want to have to deal with this new kind of light box (inside the wall) and do the spackling. The 1/2 bath isn't so bad - he's willing to do that but if this friend can come, it won't be much more work to do the other. We'll see - but it will be SO nice to have all the bathrooms in the house not only functional but looking good. LOL - it makes me want to redo our master bathroom which we redid 15 years ago when we first moved in. ;) Chances are we'll be having a wedding here in the next year or two, so I want to be working to get things in shape just in case. :D

So, other than that, today is the same old stuff - laundry, homeschooling, chores. I didn't get to take my daughter driving yesterday so I'll try for today. We'll run to the state park near here and let her drive down there. She did well for her first time behind the wheel and I want her driving as much as possible so she'll be ready for her road test.

I'm not sure about that, Ann, Sue, and MK.
I have had strep more times than I can count. I am actually a carrier, having it sometimes without a sore throat at all.
Sometimes I have had the sore throat, then it went away. But I still had untreated strep and it broke out in rashes on my legs.

Around here, if the doctor thinks it COULD be strep, they do a throat swab and run a culture right then. I have had to take some pretty strong antibiotics in the past.
With all of your illnesses, Sue, it is not something to mess around with and let lie somewhat dormant.

Right now, we have an illness going around here that seems like strep - horribly sore throat and fever - but it's viral. I don't even think I've heard of anyone with strep around here this year! But LOTS of sore throats and colds. I know you can have strep without a fever, though. But I usually go straight to the source and look at the throat. I can usually spot a strep infection by just a 2 second look. I've not been wrong yet! LOL!! Then again, a strep test never hurt anyone. ;) But I've also had bronchitis with NO symptoms other than the chest congestion (no fever, no malaise, etc.) and I have now twice had bronchitis with seemingly very little chest congestion. Turns out it had an asthmatic component to it and kept the goo inside the lungs when I coughed. Once I used an inhalet, it opened it up enough to start the blecky juicy cough.

Sue - I hope Brent continues to feel better!!

    Karen: Thanks for the info.

If Brent's throat starts hurting again or he has any fever at all, I will take him to the doctor for a throat culture.

I certainly don't want to contract Strep. I don't have the resources to fight things off like I used to...

I made sure he knew to call me if he started feeling bad or hot during school and I would pick him up ASAP. I don't want the rest of the school infected either!

I looked at his throat and it did not appear white or swollen this morning.

Around here, if there is no fever, they will not give out antibiotics because they say without fever, there is no infection. :(

Easy Sue. Count to 10 s-l-o-w-l-y. If really mad count to 20 s-l-o-w-l-y.

We've got a few docs that way around here too. The doc we go to doesn't hesitate for a second to do a throat culture if we suspect strep.

With the real possibility of strep sweeping through a family you'd think docs would do a culture and forget that "no fever" nonsense. :BangHead:

The Pastor and his Wife are coming to dinner this evening. We wanted to talk to him about joining the church [http://www.hillsdale-baptist.org/], and we asked if it would be easier for them to come here for dinner, and after dinner we'd have our discussion[ that's why I said I was praying for the dinner tonight-it's a meal I've never made before, and I really don't want to show I don't know how to cook in front of the Pastor.]

Your prayers would be appreciated. Thanks.

Pappy honey, I'm just now home myself, but I'm going for the coffee.

    Whew hoo, what a day!

Got busy on the sewing machine this morning and decided to call and wake up my friend. It was stuff for her shop I was doing so I thought I needed company since I was giving up my morning BB fix. Her husband answered and said she'd been up since 4 and was currently in the ER with their youngest! He has a faulty esophageal(sp) valve and is unable to throw up, instead he gets acid into his esophagus which is already scarred and well, you get the idea. He had come down with this virus yesterday and was really sick by this morning. I ended up going over and opening the shop and getting T's parents to keep the kids and take Jenna for her appointment.

Jenna has a viral infection. I figured as much, but I've never seen a cough go away this quickly so I wanted, and got, an x-ray. It was nicely clear, so we have a prescription for cough syrup if we need it.

I'm gonna rest and drink a pot of coffee or so and then get back to the sewing machine. 6 dresses to go and then I think I'll have everything ready to go out this weekend. I don't want to count how many I've already done today.

It doesn't have to be cold to drink coffee, Pappy. :D All it takes is a long tiring day that is not over yet and 2 sick whiney kids(you'll learn about this in a few years) and 1 teenager who desperately wants to go to the mall!

I have now infused myself with sugar, salt and caffiene so I should be good for another few hours (and hopefully six more dresses).

Brent is home and has no pain whatsoever in his throat now. PTL!

He's not very hungry though, that's different!

My tummy has been queasy since yesterday, so I think soup and a sandwich will be fine for both of us for supper tonight.

Early showers and early bedtimes don't sound bad either!
