I'm finally around, Gayla!
T was off today cause we can't have just any old carved pumpkin. He uses the neat patterns they sell at Wally World and this time we have a pirate ship, a ghost and a bat. Guess who gets to clean out the pumpkins? <hint: its NOT T>
Since he was off, we decided to go ahead and get haircuts so we don't have to this weekend and we went to Walmart. And on and on.
I was hoping to get some plants repotted so I can bring them in but that didn't get done. Maybe tomorrow.
We had some good news today. T lost a cap Sunday and went in to the dentist this morning and they were able to just put it back on! I couldn't believe it. We thought for sure that he was going to lose the tooth. He was back at the house in about 30 minutes!
So it's been a busy busy day and the evening hasn't been much better. It has been a lot more fun! Jenna and her friend Gaby wanted to go to the church's festival so I said I'd take them there and then Gaby's folks could do the whole trick or treating thing with them when we got back. (I got the best end of the deal!) Chris and Cade were set to watch the door and hand out candy. Cass was supposed to be pinning bugs.
What happened was totally different! I took Jenna, Gaby, Chris and Cade to the festival, where we stayed twice as long as we intended. Cass ended up watching the door with T. And those stupid bugs still haven't been pinned down!
I guess I should go yell at her to get started. We have 15 of the little suckers! Chris and Cade have the door. Gaby's folks have Jenna. I have a new magazine.......
Ya'll don't eat too much candy and wash off the face paint afore you go to bed.

Welcome to November Everyone!
It's time to be thinking about Thanksgiving. Do you know where your turkey is? Mine is in the freezer. T found me a 24 pounder yesterday. If I'm going to cook, I'm going to cook BIG!
There are bagels and cream cheese out for your breakfast enjoyment plus all the candy you can eat! Last year I didn't buy enough candy, this year I bought way to much.
Btw, I saw the leaf truck out and about this morning. Guess it's time to start raking!

Good Morning Everybody,
I brought in Pizza Biscuit Bears to the Coffeehouse today. They're hot from the oven. They're the remnant left from last night. We only had 6 kids come to our door. I noticed that there wasn't many houses with their porch/yard lights on last night so I guess the kids went right on by to find their treats.
A 24 lb turkey??? That surprises me Cindi. I thought you'd be one of those that would buy a "Turkey Dinner for 8- complete with potatoes, green bean casserole, rolls, salad, and two pies" from WalMart. Is your aversion to cooking taking a holiday?
Hmmmm, I'll have to start planning what we're having. Let's see, there will be 10 of us.
At our house we have an automatic leaf-raking system. It's called wind.
There once was a Baptist Pastor who went to a meeting. While he was there he struck up a conversation with a visiting Pastor from England. "What is your next holiday here in the colonies?" he asked. The American Pastor thought for a moment then replied " I guess that would be Thanksgiving. Do you celebrate Thanksgiving in England?" "oh yes, but we celebrate it in January not November." "Why January?", asked the American Pastor. "That's when they left" replied the English Pastor.

While I don't have our turkey yet, I DID get the turkey wings so I could start the gravy early. I use the Woman's Day Make-ahead Gravy recipe and it's AWESOME!! I have to see who's coming to T-day this year. Last year my dad went to his cousins and since last year, my ILs moved away. Hmmm - it MIGHT be just us!
Well, today is homeschooling, chores and then riding. It's a warmer day so Whirl SHOULD be good - hopefully. LOL!! I'm making meatloaf this afternoon so that Nicole just needs to throw it in the oven at 5 and then we'll use up some of the (gasp) packaged mashed potatoes we have to go along with it. We unloaded the boat and I have about $100 worth of convenience foods to use up - and this is a great way to do it.

LOL Ann! My kids didn't know what to think the other day when I <gasp> boiled potatos to mash! They'd never seen them fixed that way before! LOL!
Cuz, there were lots and lots of houses not participating this year in areas that usually participate. I was kinda surprised. Our stream was slow, but steady. We used about 2/3 of the candy I bought.

I will be glad when today is over and am considering how to reward Cass' biology teacher(also a member of my church) who has to grade 70something bug collections!
We have been collecting bugs for weeks. We found this giant praying mantis climbing the facing of the garage door and stuck him in the freezer, cause I didn't have the instructions on how to better preserve him dead. Took him out today to thaw him and Cass tells me that freezing the stupid little things doesn't always kill them. AAAACCCCKKKKK!!!!! That thing is almost 3 inches long!
Said nasty bug is being suffocated in acetone fumes as we speak along with about a half dozen other nasties that are taking the place of some who didn't make the cut. Who wouldv'e thought it could be so hard to stick a pin through a bug without breaking off it's wittle wegs?
Anyone wanna volunteer to help carry this project into school?

Beautiful days here now. Got a lot of yard work done today. Yesterday I spent most of the day just resting. Slept a lot, read a couple of books, slept some more. Today was Barry's day. A day of rest once a week really does do a lot of good.

Today I have to make an appointment with the dentist (if they are open) cause I lost a filling last night, go have the codes read on T's truck which is insisting that the engine needs servicing, take Cass' bug collection in casue she woke up with a migraine and be at TLB's by 9 cause she had to be in B'ham at the doc's at 10.
I can do this!
Breakfast is fresh fruit salad and an assortment of muffins, bagels and English muffins with an equally astounding selection of butters, jams and jellies. Clean up after yourselves, or Sue'll be around to administrate justice!
Ya'll have a good day!

it looks wonderful cindi...but per doctor's orders, i'm going to have to skip breakfast today.
if you think of it say a prayer for cindi and i around 10am...i'm not doing good as a pregnant woman...really grumpy, and someone may unknowingly take their life in there own hands when crossing my path.

Awww - Helen - I'm sorry about Riko! I hope he does well with the glucosamine. We're going to be starting Whirl on that too because his left hind is beginning to bother him. He's only 13 but he broke down his stall wall 2 years ago because something got in his stall. He tore up his leg really badly (his shoe was pulled off but ended up in an S shape) and it took him a good 4 months to recover. So now when I ride, he's kind of hitchy to start off but fortunately, he works it out in about 10 minutes or so. The other girl who rides him is saying we need to get in the chiropractor ($185 to start), the massage therapist ($140) and the accupuncutrist (didn't even look that one up). We said "nah - a good 10 minute walk works and is way cheaper". Can you imagine?? He's got arthritis people!! It doesn't go away! OY! Horse people think you're made of money.
Well, I'm off to finish getting ready for work then I'm off to church. Should be pretty easy today because it's the senior youth pastor preaching this week and he tends to not do notes for PowerPoint. That means I just need to do the service and announcements. But then we have our homeschool group all afternoon and we have our small group tonight.

#1 Reason when I was Pre-Med in college that I went into Mortuary Science instead of Medicine: Tanya's last post about grumpy, pregnant women. That doc she sees today better be on his best behavior. NOBODY wants to be near ground zero when a pregnant woman blows up.
Helen: I'm so sorry about Riko, but I'm so happy he now has a loving, happy home. WELCOME TO THE COLD NOSE CLUB! When I was working third shift I'd sleep during the day,and our beagle-chow mix[SOPHIE] would bound up on the bed and stick her cold, wet nose in my mouth [I snore] to wake me up. Sure glad I don't work 3rd anymore.
Ann: I never thought about how much work goes into Worship Service prep until you started posting about what you do to make sure the service runs smooth, and honors God.
To tell you the God's Honest Truth, I don't know how you Ladies get everything done that you do.
Still trying to figure out what we're having for Thanksgiving. I know we're going to my MIL's for the meal, but that's all. I've heard of writer's block, but never cook's block.
Today is grocery shopping, and other errands in town.
FoG, I get 'cook's block' at least twice a week! Today is one of them. I'm out of leftovers today. What to defrost? What to do with it THEN? :laugh:
Thanksgiving is easier. We told the kids when they got married that we would never try to 'compete' for Christmas with them, so we all decided Thanksgiving would serve for our whole family get together. Of course that means the traditional meal. I bake a giant loaf of Basque Shepherd's bread -- the kids would lynch me if I didn't -- along with the turkey and the foods we grew through the year. Then apple and pumpkin pies with my special crusts that can double as frisbees....(I'm getting better. One cracked when it hit the wall last year).
The kids will arrive on that Tuesday from different states. Wednesday we make traditional gingerbread houses. Thursday is Thanksgiving. Friday we decorate for Christmas and open gifts when the decorations are complete. Saturday and Sunday they leave. Monday we breathe. Love it while it lasts, though!
Ann, go to the feed store and get Absorbine jr. Each evening massage it into Whirl's leg and wrap the leg with one of those cheap tail wraps that has the velcro fastener on the end. Works marvelously well for keeping the leg loose and warm. Take off the wrap in the morning, of course. We used this trick on an arthritic horse for quite awhile until the arthritis just got the better of her and we could HEAR her bones hitting each other when she moved. She was then in so much pain we all agreed it was time to put her down. That was a hard one. That was Missy. The only registered rescue animal we have ever had. But the Absorbine jr. works really, really well in keeping the legs warm and mobile. And it's cheap...grin...
Cookie's scar tissue is almost gone, a shock to both us and the vet. Who would've thought lanolin would do THAT much?
TLB, hang in there. One of my girlfriends, years ago, used to call the last couple of months of pregnancy 'terminal pregnancy' because she was so sure she was going to die with this bowling ball that was kicking her locked under her skin forever! Let Christ shine through you and not the pregnancy hormones!
MK, God bless you with everything you have on your plate! Did you ever get another puppy (which you need, lady, like a hole in the head, but look who's talking...)? Please get some sleep sometimes so you can keep that energy up.
Our autumn days are perfect right now. The first rains have come and gone and we have cold, crisp nights, down in the thirties and days warming up to the mid to high sixties. Plenty of time to winterize the yard, trim the blackberry hedge in back of our property and get an autumn burn done. We burn twice a year -- once about now and once in about February when the roses and other things have all been pruned.
Gina watches Chris this morning and Barry and I will take the time to go down and look for another set of flannel sheets and maybe go out to lunch. Tomorrow Barry has another round of filmed interviews so today is our relatively quiet day. He took a day off yesterday and slept and read most of the day. He's sixty-five and just now getting the hang of taking one day in seven to rest! For SOME reason he's doing a lot better on the energy level. Maybe God really does know what He's talking about, eh?

I brought in some pizza for anyone who wants any... no I didn't cook it... I picked it up at a store in the town where I work. It is freshly made. I left some sausage, canadian bacon and pepperoni. Help yourselves.
I went to judgement house last night at my sis's church. My sis and her family are all involved in it. It was really good. There where three people who made decisions in my group. Tommorrow is soccer games and more soccer games! My oldest nephews' girlfriend is going to watch him. She was in my group at the judgement house. She is really cute! I feel really old-my nephew is dating!!!!!!!
