menageriekeeper said:Hey Cuz, I keep telling you that Alabama is a fine place to live. Larger house? If I wasn't already settled, a house just came on the market that I would love. It has 4 or 5 bedrooms, 2 garages, a studio apt, 2 or 3 bathrooms (just can't remember), sits on a nice lot that is one block from the elementary school Jenna attends and across the street from the highschool, all for $139,000. Drawbacks is that part of the neighborhood south of the house is changing quickly from middle income to lower and the street between it and the high school is very busy. Still it's an excellent price for that size house and you could always put up a privacy fence. Crime is fairly low here even if you live in a 'bad' neighborhood. Property taxes will run you about $500 a year, insurance about $1500 a year. UAB is one of the top 10 hospitals in the country for heart care and is barely an hour away (it'll be less than that when the new interstate is finished). School system is one of the tope 10 in the state. How's that for benefits?![]()
Helen said:Friend of God, Barry is not doing well. The prednisone seemed a 'miracle' for the first two nights, but last night was back to the sleep apnea. We have been researching it on the net and his appears to be the 'mixed' kind, both the soft tissue problem in the back of the throat and the brain control missing cues. This morning around five, while he was still asleep, I put my arm over him and started counting his breaths. There would be 8-10 breaths, with the last becoming shallow, and then 10-15 seconds of no breathing at all, then a gasp, then about 8-10 more breaths and the pattern would repeat itself. There is NO cure on the net that we could find and only a few surgical interventions which are not terribly promising. But sleep apnea causes enormous problems, including hypertension, enlarged heart, memory loss, and a ton of other things. It's scary.Helen: I was diagnosed with SA years ago. My CPAP was set on "20" which is quite high. It made all the difference in the world to me. I would drag through the day tired all the time, even though I "thought" I was getting enough sleep. Brenda would panic several times each night when I'd forget to breathe then do the "snort" and start again. It's frustrating I know. I doubt I could provide any more help than you're getting online. You and Barry are in my thoughts and prayers.raying:
Good Morning Everybody,
Yes, at 11:46am it's still morning [for another 14 mins. that is.]
It really got noisy around here last night. Like a lot of other people in the midwest last night was filled with storms, tornado warnings[no confirmed touch-downs though], high wind and lightning. It's coolish and overcast today. The temp says 63 but it feels cooler.
MIL has never liked storms. She is 77, and almost blind due to Macular Degeneration, her hearing is about gone, she can't hardly walk, and her short-term memory is almost shot. She can remember in perfect detail something that happened or was said 50 years ago, but 30 minutes ago escapes her. Welcome to Old Age folks.
If I wern't for having to uproot, and disrupt the Gkids I would take that house by my Cuz in a heartbeat. I was born in MI and lived my entire life here, but 55 years of cold weather and snow are enough for me. The "change of seasons" lost it's thrill for me years ago.
With having the Gkids it's hard to "change personnel" at my MILs. Brenda or Louise can go down for a short time each day to give me a break, but then I'm back by about 3-4pm and for all night. Nursing Homes are not an option, so this may continue for awhile.
I brought in Pulled Pork[in the crockpot], buns, Banana-Pepper Slaw, and Hot Pumpkin Pie Enjoy.
I'm going to kick back for awhile before I go back.
