Beautiful day again in Philly.
As far as I am concerned, it can say this cool as long as it wants to. Only trouble with that is, it delays the mulberries on the tree in front of my house, and makes them come out later in the summer. It's great if they're done and gone by July 4th. I can't do anything outside on my front patio with berries everywhere. And you have to wipe your feet whenever you come in. But they track in anyway.

Had my pre-admission testing yesterday, and it turned out the tech went to elementary school with my niece! Since the name was the same, she ask first if my daughter's name was Kim, I said no - that's my neice - and the conversation went from there. Made the whole thing go very pleasantly.

In a strange sort of way I'm looking forward to getting this shoulder fixed. At least it will be progress. Right now I'm stuck at the level I'm at, and it's frustrating as well as painful. Week from today is the day!

Have a company-wide lunch meeting with the new CEO at the big Marriott near the PA Convention Center. At least I hope they serve lunch - the meeting was called for 11:30!

Well, I guess everyone was "out to lunch."

The new CEO is a friendlier type of guy than the old one. He was very stiff. The new guy spoke of the same old stuff of course, better customer service, new ideas, etc.
The food was great! Wrap sandwiches, salad, ravioli, veggies, chicken, cookies, iced tea, sodas, coffee, the works! They must be making money.

Hi All, had my last eye exam after my cataract surgery early this morning. It's healed perfectly and I have 20/20 vision in both eyes but can use drugstore reading glasses for tiny print if needed. Dr. said to come back in Nov. 2006 for a check on my other cataract.

The trip went really well. Ty talked all the way there but was really quiet on the way home. I had promised a trip to the Dollar Tree if he was good so he's got a 'policeman' set and is out back shooting pretend 'bad boys in the butt' (his words, not mine).

It's always something.... This week is an extra long church service with S/S starting at 9:00. The lady who is supposed to work extended session for the 4 year olds sings in the choir. Her husband is an usher. They need me to stay until they finish their duties. The next week is MY week and since Jim works the sound system every other week, I'll be alone.

Thanks Tony! Me too! I still have 3 weeks and 1 day for steriod eye drops but I don't have to sleep with the eye patch and tend to forget I even had the surgery until I realize how well I'm seeing.

It's 78°. I won't turn on my air until it stays above 95° for most of the day. Once it gets near 90°, I close up the windows and shades early in the day and turn on all the ceiling fans. We cook on the grill to keep the heat out of the house too. I air dry my dishes when it's really hot too. Jim's out in the heat all day and Nick and I just get used to it because it comes on slowly... so we can deal with it. Thank the Lord, cause we're too poor!

Diane, having some construction workers next door helped me make the decision to go ahead and turn it on. I didn't want to hear their mouths, banging and stupid hillbilly or Mexicalli rap!

Not only is my air on, I had to turn it down some cause we were still hot. We were working though.

Because the yard sale and my back being so bad the last few days, things in the house were getting wildly out of hand. So today I called one of the few people I know who are still doing housecleaning and four long hard hours later I have a clean house!

Now I have a costume to fix and a customer coming to bring another at 6:30. So my day isn't over just yet. Hopefully, I'll still be able to move by then.

My back is some better today, still have to be careful how I move and can't lift things above my head without feeling the tingling in my fingertips. I let my help do all the lifting after I went to put a quilt up on a shelf and lost the feeling in my fingers for a moment.

Diane, I do have a pinched nerve but it is the degenerative disease I have in my disks that is the true cause of the problem. It appears that I have 3 now. One in my neck(had for a few years) and two in my upper back. There may just be one in my back instead of two close together, but I hurt in two distinct places.

Ga. Power just got a rate hike that'll bump our bills almost $7.00 a month for nothing! Mine is already near $60. a month and we have gas heat, gas, hot water, gas stove....

Air Conditioning is something we just have to do without.

It's 89° right now in my t.v. room. The rest of the house is cooler. That room faces due west.

Install awnings over your window. That was the original air conditioner used on London hospitals long before air conditioners. They were never intended to block the sun..remember there was more rain and fog than sun in London...it was designed to capture the cold air currents flowing down the side of the buildiing.

This is true, Jim. We have awnings on the two sides of the house that get the most sun. It doesn't stop the sun, but it sure is a lot cooler on that side of the house.

I would love to have them on the other side too, however, we DO have tall shade trees on that side.

My visit to the podiatrist, this morning, was a 'piece of cake'. She got the ingrown nails out of the corners on both toes.

However....I have to go back in two weeks and have the toenail on the great toe surgically removed and acid put on the roots so it will never grow back - I let it go without treatment for many years too long.

It will be a permanent removal, but I can live with that.

Glad your visit to the podiatrist went well, Sue.

We saw houses in Key West that had "built in" awnings. Not sure what the correct architectural term is, but apparently it was an English design. I think they called them "eyebrow houses". These were houses built before air conditioning, but this design would help cool the house.

We have had our A/C on and off since March. Our bill this month was only $70.00. We try to keep the temperature a certain degree all year long. About 72.9, which seems to be the most comfortable. This works so much better than when we would let the house get too hot or too cold and try to cool or warm it.

Sue, that's good news!

Well, it's an OK 59 here. I can smell the rain coming, and feel it on it's way into the area. "Uncle Arthir" won't leave me alone....LOL

It was 87 here yesterday (their official high according to the radio...it was 91 on our thermometer) and I had to keep the air on. Some of those construction workers set fire to a pile of wood, plywood and drywall (imagine that...these brilliant people trying to burn fire retarded drywall) and I can smell the smoke.

Thank God it's Vivian's last day for the week. Our kitchen faucet needs a new washer in it. I had to turn the water in the kitchen off two days ago...this is the second or third time since we've lived in this house that the washer has gone out on this assembly. It's still under warranty, but I'm not letting the general contractor come back in again since he can't seem to get anything fixed correctly. I'd rather do it myself and save myself the headache later on.

Obviously, Blackbird has done taken "T" completely out of context----but lets see what's happening:

#1 Vivian is off today

#2 The faucet is leaking

#3 T is attempting to fix the leak himself

Blackbird's keen observation has observed obviously some serious flaws in T's thinkin'---

Blackbird has no problem with Vivian being off---nor with a leaky faucet---but he can't understand----and poses the question

"Why waste energy fixin' the leak---when one has a perfectly capable wife who can do it????" Besides---why let Vivian waste a perfectly good day off #1 doin' absolutely nothin' or worse than doin' nothin'--#2 goin' shoppin'-----when she could be fixin' somethin'?????

Actually, blackbirdy....the wife is working today...I said today is her last day for the week.....So much for your 'keen observation'...LOL

My wife could probably fix it, believe me. I've taught her a lot of stuff, especially when they kept testing me for cancer. I didn't want her left helpless...and she isn't.

And for the shopping...well, gotta got get the stuff to fix the faucet (and the one in the bathroom, too) so, may as well do all at once.

See, T??? Thats my whole point of the observation---to observe things the ordinary husband may be overlookin'---and it stands to reason---now that the truth has come out(read the part where there is ALSO a leak in the bathroom)----with so much to do at home repairin' TWO leaks now instead of simply ONE leak----why go to work----See?? Blackbird has done this a zillion times before on this Baptist Board----he has read the heads of countless people(some easy---some hard )and its just a pure waste of precious water when there are now two leaks she must contend with!!!! Twice as much water!!!

Good morning all:

It is warm this morning, but the thunderstorms started last night and will continue through tonight.

Unfortunately, that knocks me out of working the corner today since I can wear nothing but TOE sandals for two days. There is no way I could keep them on my feet trying to walk fast in the rain!

I have the busiest corner in town and have to walk back and forth 'briskly' because I cross the kids, from two different schools, across two different streets, from five different directions! I'm not chancing an accident.

Today is Brent's last day in 5th grade and we will be cramming a little, so I guess it all worked out for the best anyway. A year's school work is 60 PACES and Brent started a month late and will have completed 96 PACES by the end of today with a 98.7 grade average (it may be higher after we receive his 4th quarter report card). He is doing great!
