COMMON GROUND COFFEE HOUSE #85

I can remember when I lived in Florida in the late sixties. I was in one hurricane and headed back to Illinois. One was enough for me!

A few VERY rich men had bought up all the swamp land years ago and were paying for people's air fare and motel rooms to come down and invest in it.

The prospective buyers were told that the swamp land would be drained and viable to build a home on in a few years.

Some got rich off of the gullible and the gullible are paying for it.

Sad...

Thankful

Okay, so I don't live there, but we have the Arkansas Navigational System and lots of lakes.

I am old enough to remember when Lake Texoma in Oklahoma/Texas was established by damming the Red River. My Sunday School Teacher ( I think I was
about 8 at the time) had us convinced that the dam would break and flood our town. Now there was no way that was going to happen even if the dam had broken. That dam is still holding after all these years, but they moved entire towns which included cemeteries and lots of land was flooded.

When I was little there was a flood near where I lived--it was a big to-do as that area doesn't get flooded much.

I remember we were driving to church through quite a bit of water, and I asked my parents why God was flooding the earth again.

I guess to me that WAS the earth ... all I knew of it at the time, anyway. ;)

  Gas here in Michigan hit $3.19/gal today.  Guess we'll only be traveling to church(22 miles-1 way).
It's time to prioritize our travel, but still need to keep our priorities straight. God comes first-even at $3.19/gal for gas.

Gas to-day in Ontario was $1.03 per litre (1 Imperial gallon = 4.55 litres) or $4.69 per gallon). I guess we are all being ravaged by the oil companies.

Cheers,

Jim

PS. They haven't even started to charge based on availability of crude oil..just gas shortage and demand, or because they can!

There is no telling when we will hear from Tater and others. So much going on. The news only seems to get worse every day about the destruction. :(

Morning all:

Last night we prayed heavily for those who suffered in the devastation of Katrina. We prayed for their families, and our church is starting to collect to send things through the Salvation Army and the Baptist Relief Fund. It was sad to know of the people who lost their lives, the looting and the wickedness that is going on at this time. It reminds me of what the Bible says about how men will be when the Holy Spirit is taken out of the way. It will be a whole different world.

Please, if you get a chance today, please remember several unspoken prayer requests we have here. I know this isn't the prayer forum, but I know a lot of people read here, so I know prayers will go up.

God bless you all today.

T

Jim, glad I don't live where you are! Gas here is making it very hard on us right now. But, we know God is able to provide.

We have not been impacted much yet. Petrol is still hovering at a little over $5.00 per US gallon ($6.15 imperial gallon) at the moment. Waiting for the big increase any minute now.

Good morning all:

It is going to be a pleasant day, temperature wise. I didn't sleep too well last night. I think I watched the weather channel too much yesterday...

The devastation and destruction in people's lives is terrible and will be for some time to come.
