COMMON GROUND COFFEE HOUSE #89

Thanks Sue. I have read all that there is to read on the net, plus engaged professionals who tried everything. We used rabbit-cage wire to cover holes and vents, and the squirrels chew right through the siding in minutes. Given our country and wooded area, I fear the professionals are correct and the only solution is extermination. I am reluctant to do this, but how many thousands does one have to spend? I have even cut all the trees around the house and left a wide open space,,,they are clever as all get out. As I said earlier, when the chap hunnted squirrels for food, we had no squirrel problem. I can't find another hunter right now, but I am running an advert in the local paper.

Cheers, and thanks,

Jim

PS. I do spray flying insect insecticide on the holes they make through the drywall and this chases them out for a few days, but I still end up with insulation-free and hollow walls requiring the revoval of all the drywall and redoing them.

I am also thinking about installing heavy steel siding.

Cheers,

Jim

I feel for you, Jim. I wish I had a solution.

I DID find something interesting on that site, for myself.

We have squirrels all over our yard (we have Black Walnut trees which they love!). I think I may take down my bird feeders!!!

First and foremost, don't feed the birds. Don't feed any kind of animal outside. Even pets should be fed inside, never leave their food outside. Squirrels are very mobile, and a pet dish or bird feeding station is "open" territory, so any and every animal will be attracted to that area to eat the food or to eat the animals that eat the food!

Not only that, but these animals will almost certainly vector diseases between each other and may also do the same for you. People are inveterate bird-feeders, and industries have grown up, catering to those that like to feed the birds. Restrain yourself.

True naturalists will confirm that feeding wildlife (including birds) is not a good idea. So will any exterminator. The animals will find their food well enough without our help and be better for it. So will we. Enjoy them, sure, but leave them alone.

Last post was this MORNING?

Ya got roaches in here or WHAT?

My day was quite simple. We didn't go to church, because I didn't want to. I think this is the first time this has happened since we joined! Guess there's a first for everything...

I got my room clean, just gotta make my bed. I'm all impressed with me. Tomorrow I'll work on the bathroom and kitchen, then the next day I'll do all the laundry and and and and...
It's just so NICE to be home and be able to do this! I always do a little at a time or I get so exhausted, but if I'm actually HERE it's not a problem to do that.

I'm considering making a bit of artwork to go on the sliding glass door in my bedroom, for the holidays. I doubt I'll actually get to it, but if I do I'll get some ricepaper and attempt to do watercolor on it, which I'm totally unfamiliar with but am willing to give it a shot!

Morning all:

It's a chilly 41 here this morning. The weatherman said it's supposed to drop all day and then snow. I hope not!

Viv and her sisters are having a hard time this Christmas with the loss of their mother earlier this year, especially Viv's younger sister, Pat. Their mom used to go to Pat's home every year for a week or so and would spend the holidays with them. She called the other day very depressed and hurting. They've been through a lot of other stuff this year as well, but this has been the straw that broke the camel's back, so to speak. Viv talked to her for about two hours.

Anyone else having gas prices spike in the last week or so? We've had a 30-40 cent hike in just the last ten days. It's outrageous!

Well, hope you all have a wonderful day. God bless and keep you in the hollow of His hand.

Tony,
Yup, our gas hit $2.35 yesterday. it had got down to about $1.99 - $2.00 before this latest jump. People travel for Christmas, and the oil companies know it.

No snow here. Just freezing temps and yes high gas prices.

Sue do you have to shovel your driveway? (As you can see I am fascintated by places with lots of snow. I have little experience with the phenomena)

I'm suprised the town/city hasn't gone and stuck pay meters up!

It's a calm day here, the girls are in school. I called to settle some more stuff with Anna's doctors, and this place is slowly getting cleaned up. I'm almost done with the kitchen and bathroom. I still have to make my bed. I did a few loads of laundry.

I also chipped paint off the wall by accident. I hung a picture wrong and it fell, I thought the marks it left on the wall were just scuffs so I went to scrub them off and the paint where I scrubbed just fell off where the picture had hit. It had stayed for a month, so I was suprised it fell.

That's about all the excitement here so far! Cleaning a bit, posting a lot, cleaning a bit, posting a lot, gonna eat lunch soon. Exactly how life ought to be. :D Might run out for milk and just to drive, it feels nice on my back.

We need a yawning smilie! Anyone have one?

We do need a yawning one.

For all you pet lovers......I have decked Chip our for Christmas. I got red soft paws which are little glue on nail caps to prevent scratching. He's very festive with his red claws! I have to keep reminding him it's not red nail polish.

This is from A Am Blessed 16, aka Sue.

She's going to be offline for a while, her computer is on it's way to the repair shop! If it takes too long, she will probably rent one, but until then, she's not available. See the thread about the folding project, up in announcements, for an explanation.
