I agree we have an obligation to stand for the truth. My point is that we still must maintain our Christlikeness even when opposing evil. When Jesus rebuked, He rebuked in love always. Why? Because God is love. Jesus never resorted to sarcasim or cynicism to make His point.Originally posted by dianetavegia:
However, Pastor Bob, it is our place to point out unscriptural views or it is the same as endorsing those views.
I do not think this is necessarily so. Silence is not always an acknowledgement of agreement. Ecc 3:7 A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak ; (KJV) A wise person will be able to discern what time to do both.If I were to not reply when someone says it's okay to hate people with one leg because God hates people with one leg... then I would be saying I agree.
There are many factors involved in when to keep silent and when to speak. If I spoke out against everything I disagreed with on the Baptist Board, I would have several thousand posts. I do not normally get involved in a thread that is argumentative. Nothing is ever resolved in those threads. I may state my position and then back away quietly. That is in no way an admission of defeat; it is knowing when to remain silent.
The bottom line is, when you do speak, speak the truth in love.
