There are numerous things that commentary could be given about, and as a follower of Christ who reads the bible, it would have better wisdom. That said, the people in the USA who are followers of Christ, will need to heed this word of God in the near future:
Rev 18:4 Then I heard another voice from heaven saying, "Come out of her, my people, lest you take part in her sins, lest you share in her plagues;
Christians should read the entire chapter and understand the context about the land they live in. Here's more of it, and there's no other country in the world this could apply to. Read the details.
Rev 18:3 For all nations have drunk the wine of the passion of her sexual immorality (do I really need to give a lesson on this? Thank you, Hollywood, among others.), and the kings of the earth have committed immorality with her, and the merchants of the earth have grown rich from the power of her luxurious living."
Rev 18:4 Then I heard another voice from heaven saying, "Come out of her, my people, lest you take part in her sins, lest you share in her plagues;
Rev 18:5 for her sins are heaped high as heaven, and God has remembered her iniquities.
Rev 18:6 Pay her back as she herself has paid back others, and repay her double for her deeds; mix a double portion for her in the cup she mixed.
Rev 18:7 As she glorified herself and lived in luxury, so give her a like measure of torment and mourning, since in her heart she says, 'I sit as a queen, I am no widow, and mourning I shall never see.' (i.e. attitude, "We're the greatest country in the world! Everybody wants to be like us!")
Rev 18:8 For this reason her plagues will come in a single day, death and mourning and famine, and she will be burned up with fire; for mighty is the Lord God who has judged her."
Rev 18:9 And the kings of the earth, who committed sexual immorality and lived in luxury with her, will weep and wail over her when they see the smoke of her burning.
Rev 18:10 They will stand far off, in fear of her torment, and say, "Alas! Alas! You great city, you mighty city, Babylon! For in a single hour your judgment has come."
Rev 18:11 And the merchants of the earth weep and mourn for her, since no one buys their cargo anymore,
Rev 18:12 cargo of gold, silver, jewels, pearls, fine linen, purple cloth, silk, scarlet cloth, all kinds of scented wood, all kinds of articles of ivory, all kinds of articles of costly wood, bronze, iron and marble,
Rev 18:13 cinnamon, spice, incense, myrrh, frankincense, wine, oil, fine flour, wheat, cattle and sheep, horses and chariots (i.e. cars), and slaves (America's rampant sex slavery), that is, human souls. (America is the greatest debtor, importer, nation in the history of the world. Nothing compares.)
Rev 18:14 "The fruit for which your soul longed has gone from you, and all your delicacies and your splendors are lost to you, never to be found again!"
Rev 18:15 The merchants of these wares, who gained wealth from her, will stand far off, in fear of her torment, weeping and mourning aloud,
Rev 18:16 "Alas, alas, for the great city that was clothed in fine linen, in purple and scarlet, adorned with gold, with jewels, and with pearls!
Rev 18:17 For in a single hour all this wealth has been laid waste." And all shipmasters and seafaring men, sailors and all whose trade is on the sea, stood far off
Rev 18:18 and cried out as they saw the smoke of her burning, "What city was like the great city?"
Rev 18:19 And they threw dust on their heads as they wept and mourned, crying out, "Alas, alas, for the great city where all who had ships at sea grew rich by her wealth! For in a single hour she has been laid waste.
Great city is defined in the chapter previous, also identified by 2 additional titles, The Whore, and Mystery Babylon.
Great city is not a town, but a country.
Bible history lesson: Babylon was a city along the Euphrates river in Iraq. Whenever the bible in the Old Testament refers to Babylon, it's almost always referring to the empire, not the town.
Likewise, the great city in the End Days, is not NYC or something like that, but rather a nation. Our empire, which until recently, we had over 900 military bases around the globe.
Now go back and read about the merchants weeping because nobody buys there cargo anymore. This is not a city that has been desecrated, but a nation.
Read Revelation 17 to get the wider context for identification.
What's ironic is that in the 1980's various Arab countries used to call America "the great Satan" because of how immoral we were/are and the filth that came out of Hollywood that affected countries everywhere. The promotion of homosexuality, and other criminal behavior. Even China is now affected by America's immorality and there is an uprising of homosexual pressure on their culture. The women in the Asian countries used to be subservient to their husbands, but thanks to America's feminist movement, which affected countries everywhere, that too has affected the race.
