Not what it says! You have the person being made righteous, rather than his or her faith being credited as righteousness. Big difference.
Romans 4:5 NASB
But to the one who does not work, but believes in Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is credited as righteousness,
Here "his faith" refers to Abraham's faith.
Romans 3:22 And this righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe.
Philippians 3:9 and may be found in Him, not having a righteousness of my own derived from the Law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which comes from God on the basis of faith,
2 Corinthians 5:21 For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
Our righteousness is Christ's righteousness accredited to us thru faith. If you are asserting that it is your faith that makes you righteous, rather than placing your faith in Christ for righteousness, then you are stuck in a very serious problem.
