Squire,

I pulled up your church web site. It looks like a very dynamic church that would offer much to many people. Was impressed that there are some singles outreach programs as well. Alas....I live in Missouri, so it would be a very long commute to come visit.

Is this an Independent Baptist Church, Southern, or some other affiliation?

We were fundemental before Fundementalists were fun. Seriously, HSBC was founded as a Regular Baptist church of the Northern persuasion. In 1881, the Northern Baptist Convention did not exist. When it did get organized in 1901, HSBC affiliated herself with it. However, as the tide of Modernism rose in the NBC, HSBC withdrew from it in 1948. She then affiliated herself with the Conservative Baptist Assoc. In 1968, seeing the drift into what she perceived as compromise, HSBC cut her ties with the CBA. Currently, we formally fellowship on the state and national level with the Fundemental Baptist Fellowship International (another organization with roots in the old NBC).

Don't baptists ever learn? Why not just be unaffiliated of all the conventions, associations, fellowships, etc.? It would save a lot of trouble, not to mention paper for all those ballots!

I agree with this statement. The problem today is we look at schools or associations, conventions, fellowships for who we fellowship with and we do not let the Word of God be our rule of fellowship.

Bro. Dallas, try it again. It seems to be working now.

Is this the Continental group you were referring to?
Mitsy, as far as I know, there is no connection between the two. Continental Baptist Churches is an association and Continental Baptist Missions seems to be kind of a missions clearinghouse, but I do not think they are in cooperation - just happen to have similar names.

How about the IFCA International (formerly I.F.C.A.)
Independent Fundamental Churches of America was started in 1930. If you go to their "What We Believe" page you will have a very clear statement of what I perseonally believe. Here's the link:

Here is a state Baptist convention that allows the churches and individuals to decide where they want their national dollars to do. Currently its front-page article is a response to the most recent SBC meeting.

Wow, you have listed quite a few sites. I really appreciate that, as I am unfamiliar with all the different types of religion.

God Bless

The church I belong to is an Independent Fundamental Baptist Church. We don't belong to any association. I grew up in a Southern Baptist home, and I can see some distinct differences, but not in the basic doctrine and ordinances.

Saved by grace, once saved-always saved, baptism by immersion (but it doesn't save you) and the Lord's Supper for rememberance.

As far as I can tell, these are what make us Baptists, correct? It's the OTHER things that are distinguishing amongst Baptists....right?

I was just running some searches and came across this website:

Domine, Dirige Nos

The linked page contains numerous links to Baptist sites, though some are duplicates of what we have here. Enjoy.
