If so, do you miss it being gone? I mean, I know it's on certain cable/satellite stations on reruns, but does anyone wish that they would have continued? Any other of the "Star Trek" series you liked???? If so, which ones and why?

I wish all the Star Trek series lasted longer, except Voyager and its annoying crew.

There's a new series in the works: Star Trek: Discovery.

I watched the show when it was first on TV but no, I don't miss ST:TNG. Too many politically correct stories which I labeled "Star Trek Church". These stories were thinly disguised morality plays, basically a humanistic sermon set to drama.

I liked TOS and Enterprise. I've only seen a handful of Deep Space Nine episodes but I liked them. I don't know why I didn't watch more of DS9, I suppose because TNG turned me off to the whole franchise.

I enjoy ST:NG but my favorite was ST:Voyager. I have all 7 seasons on DVD. I keep trying to get into DS9 on Netflix but so far it has not happened. I don't miss them but I am excited that a new series is coming out. I am enjoying the reboot so far, going to see the latest movie today with hubby.

There definitely is the Star Trek church. When the original Star Trek was being created, there was thought of having a clergy officer on board. By the time TNG came out, there wasn't the remotest thought of that, as it would conflict with the ST church. Now, Christianity is culturally dead, so there would be no consideration of a clergy officer, even if ST didn't have its own church.

ST, being a family show, has been pretty clean up until now. But, now in our country's open rebellion against Christianity, the next series might have a homosexual character. The latest movie had decided to make one of the main characters from the original series a homosexual in the movie. TVs and moves almost have to do this, these days, to prove they're not with Jesus.

I remember a pastor (Tim Keller...maybe David Wells....I can't remember) using Star Trek as an illustration of our shifting worldviews. He noted that the original Star Trek envisioned a future which was basically without religion. Science was the great liberator. But when we get to the Next Generation, spirituality is woven throughout the series. Each series reflected the ideologies of it's generation and how each generation viewed the future (one, moving away to religion/spirituality and the other drenched in spirituality without objective truth).

What was interesting is that the oroginal shows had a planet where Jesus was right now being born and was called the son of God, and that Kirk told Apollo that mankind belief in ONE true god was already enough!

No, it wasn't that Jesus was "right now being born". Did you possibly, maybe watch the video that Smyth posted? It covers this issue.

The show in question had a planet still ubder Rome, and their Jesus was born, and had come as Son of God, but Spock mistook it for the Sun itself!

Did I watch ST:TNG? Yes. Do I miss it being gone? No, not really. It was a good show with (mostly) interesting characters, especially Data. Couldn't stand Wesley (but then again, who could? LOL) and second season's Dr. Pulaski.

The show I really liked was Deep Space Nine. Ben Sisko was one bad*** captain. Didn't really care for Dr. Bashir at first, but as his character developed, so did my fondness of him. It's a shame DS9 didn't get a feature film.

Watched when they all first ran, now in the second season of Voyager on Amazon Prime. Have watched all the other series recently on Prime.

We watched 3-4 episodes of DS9 every night from start to finish and it was a lot of fun doing it that way.

Our three kids are all fans as well as most of the grand-kids.

I've been watching DS9 lately and I must say I like it much better than TNG. Deeper character development in DS9 and more interesting themes and ethical issues. Less political correctness.

The interesting thing was that George Takei himself loudly disagreed with making the current Sulu character gh3y. Takei even said that Sulu was NOT ghey and that making him ghey was totally against Rodenberry's vision.

Imagine that...the real life ultra liberal and very openly ghey actor who played Sulu in the 60's gives this current version flak for making a pro-gh3y statement.
