We cry out To God because He has revealed the Gospel to us and given us a new heart and hope found only in Christ

we realize our sinfulness and that we deserve hell, and Gods mercy found in Christ the Lord

We should be asking God to forgive us our sins and save us through the Gospel

There is no where in scripture where any asked Jesus into their heart

So you're saying that lost individuals should pray and ask God to forgive their sins and save them.

Psalm 66:18
If I regard iniquity in my heart, The Lord will not hear.
The premise God will not hear the prayers of the Lost, because they have "regard" for iniquity in their heart is false. Here the claim is because humanity is fallen, depraved, corrupted, God does not hear them when they seek God.

It is certainly true if your mind harbors ungodly thoughts and attributes, such as the prayer of the Pharisee in Luke 18:9-14, God will not act favorably in response to that prayer. But God knew the content of that prayer, and the attitude that undergirded it.

:)...my name's not @Alan Gross, but this is such a good question I just can't help myself.,

"Being a just, honorable person and a person who fears God" (like Cornelius, Acts Of The Apostles 10:34-35) means that God has already wrought within that person APART from hearing the gospel, or, 'coming to the light'. John 3:8 happens all the time.

20 for every one who is doing wicked things hateth the light, and doth not come unto the light, that his works may not be detected;
21 but he who is doing the truth doth come to the light, that his works may be manifested, that in God they are having been wrought.` Jn 3

...and, how long does it take to 'save' someone with the gospel?:

16 Take heed to thyself, and to thy teaching. Continue in these things; for in doing this thou shalt save both thyself and them that hear thee. 1 Tim 4

How much 'teaching' did it take to finally get Timothy and his flock 'saved'?

How long does it take to be convicted by the Holy Spirit? For some a moment for others a lifetime.

How long does it take to be convicted by the Holy Spirit? For some a moment for others a lifetime.

One of most misapplied passages by Evangelicals:

8 And he, when he is come, will convict the world in respect of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:
9 of sin, because they believe not on me;
10 of righteousness, because I go to the Father, and ye behold me no more;
11 of judgment, because the prince of this world hath been judged. Jn 16

This is the ‘world’ the Spirit convicted through the mouths of His witnesses:

20
Jesus answered him, I have spoken openly to the world; I ever taught in synagogues, and in the temple, where all the Jews come together; and in secret spake I nothing. Jn 18

I’m saying when we are willing to come to God that He has already done all of the work ie He has changed our hearts - think of it as a grace awakening

Only a regenerate person can come to God in true repentance and Faith. Romans 10:9-14

We come before God with a broken heart realizing that we have truly sinned against a Holy God

at that point is when we truly confess Christ as Lord and Savior

So you think only Jews will be convicted by the Holy Spirit. Well looks like you are left out also, unless you happen to be a Jew. You talk about people that misapply scripture, KY you need to look in the mirror.

Only a regenerate person can come to God in true repentance and Faith. Romans 10:9-14

Eph 1:13 In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise,

Rom 10:14 How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher?

So you are saying that a person is saved before they even believe or have even heard of Christ Jesus. The bible disagrees with you on that.

No

I said we are regenerate by the preaching of the Gospel

it all happens simultaneously

So you're saying that once a person hears the gospel their saved.
So how do you explain those that hear the gospel and reject it or those that hear it and do not trust in Christ at the time but latter, sometimes years latter, will turn to Christ in faith.

You seem to think man has nothing to do with his own salvation. The bible would disagree with that view as the verses you quoted shows.

Rom 10:9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.
Rom 10:10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
Rom 10:11 For the Scripture says, "WHOEVER BELIEVES ON HIM WILL NOT BE PUT TO SHAME."
Rom 10:12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him.
Rom 10:13 For "WHOEVER CALLS ON THE NAME OF THE LORD SHALL BE SAVED."
Rom 10:14 How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher?

Man has to respond to the invitation of the gospel message before they are saved by the grace of God.

I never said that

They are regenerated by the HS by the preaching of the Gospel

God does not choose to regenerate everyone

please do not put words in my mouth

Again when God regenerates our hearts, salvation occurs 100% of the time

w/o it, there is no salvation

Do you understand that to mean no one can be saved? Romans 3:10-11.
The Lord only hears the prayers of His elect...those He has chosen in Christ before the foundation of the world and has sent His Son to be the propitiation for their sins.

One cannot be born again by "praying a prayer".
Contrary to popular belief, He has not left the decision to save a people for Himself up to imperfect men.

The onus is on God, not men, to save anyone and grant them repentance unto life.

Not putting words in your mouth @Marooncat79 to quote you "I said we are regenerate by the preaching of the Gospel" Just responding to what you wrote.

But even with your adjustment you still have people saved before they believe or are you saying that the Holy Spirit regenerates them after they hear and believe the gospel as we see in
Ephesians 1:13 In Him, you also, after listening to the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation—having also believed, you were sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit of promise

The bible is clear that God only saves those that accept Christ Jesus as their savior. God's desire is for all to be saved:

1Ti 2:3 This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior,
1Ti 2:4 who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.

But God has also set the condition for salvation, faith in His son.

You did quote these verses didn't you?

Or do you think there is another way to be saved?

@Dave G what you have just posted is Calvinist philosophy, not the biblical truth.

If we went by your post then we would have universalism. You say the onus is on God so God would logically do as He desires
1Ti 2:3 This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior,
1Ti 2:4 who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
