But everyone who ever texts while the drive should view this. Also I believe any parent who has teenagers who drive should make them view this video.

I've always wondered....in the '70's when everyone had a C.B., we did not have a lot of auto accidents like we have now with the telephones. Did people just get stupid or do they just not know how to drive now-a-days?

Texting is a lot different from CBs.. or even talking on the phone (especially if you have a bluetooth headset).. It is virtually impossible to text and keep your eyes on the road.

It should be outlawed.

Thanks Crabby, I just shared it with all my friends on Facebook. A lot are college and high school kids...
I hope they pay attention.

My point is that someone talking on the C.B back then caused fewer accidents even though we were talking to someone on a microphone, as opposed to someone talking on a cell-phone. We didn't run into people like they do now. Heck, the mic was under the dashboard and not in a pocket like now-a-days. Forget about texting. I've seen idiots talking on phones who thought they were in a phone booth instead of a 2000 lb. car going down the highway.

Our county (Ononadaga) has just recently outlawed texting. And it is a hefty fine.

But it may be hard to enforce...

I think the basic difference is that with the CB, you could not carry on a two-way conversation; IE you talked, released the mike button and the other person talked. If you tried to interrupt, like on a phone, nobody heard squat.

With the cells, it's like the two participants sitting next to each other on the couch, 'cept now you're having to hold the cell and drive at the same time, and the divided attention -- well--!

And with texting it's even worse, because now there is the added distraction of "not looking where you're going"!

If you're gonna drive, drive; if you're gonna talk (cell) or text, park and then do that.

There's a difference. There is no significant date that indicates the simple act of talking on one's cell phone causes more accidents. Therefore, I oppose laws that ban it (although I comply with those laws). In regards to texting, there is plenty of data that shows it causes accidents. I support legislation against texting.

Actually, there is a greater risk of a collision while DWT see link

The problem is that many people think they are much safer with a hands free phone - for which the most part is incorrect. There have been some studies done that show a part of the brain actually slows down when conversing on the phone. I do not have that info handy, but will attempt to get it.
The biggest problem while driving and holding a phone, is certain maneuvers, such as turning or passing a large vehicle.

Several counties in NY have outlawed texting, which I do support - however, this past week, Gov Patterson has signed into law a Statewide ban on texting - but it is only a secondary law. The biggest problem is enforcement.

If a person isn't capable of driving and talking at the same time.. they should surrender their license...

The problem is not the talking.. or listening.. it is taking hands off steering wheel...and eyes off of road.
If the problem is talking or listening, then conversations within the car should be outlawed...

EEEK!!!!!

Well, that would cut down on women drivers... !!!! hehehehhehe...

(OK, tiny sneaking out of room before someone grabs a rollingpin)

If my elderly Father wants to drive down the street talking on the phone, reading a book, or wearing a hockey mask, I think he has the right to do so. Unlike so many who want to limit our freedoms these days, he served in the military to secure our freedoms. If some Marxist freedom-hater is worried about his driving, I'd say they'd better buy a bigger car or stay off the sidewalk!

The job of govt is to protect me from other - when I am reasonably unable to do so. Someone who is driving with a hockey mask is a danger to others.
(the same goes for Muslim women who wear berkers sp )
Remember the principal is the same as indicated by a Judge who said "you don't have a right to yell fire in a crowded theater"

To take it a step further, do have the right to walk into someones house to protect yourself from a blinding snow blizzard?

Well then, if he does all that when he's driving then he won't know until he's at the pearly gates that he had an accident and went gently into that goodnight, unlike his passengers who went screaming and yelling!
