With just three if you can....
He built up so many strawmen in his sermon to attack I cannot count how many.
I don't know that he threw out "countless" straw-men....there wasn't even enough depth to his little sermonette for that. I don't quite get his statement about putting God in a "box" really, as any Theology could be used for that purpose. But there were no "straw-men."
He ridiculed another church for only having 26 baptisms in a year while his church performed 2600.
He didn't name the "golden-boy" he spoke of....but depending on whether or not he speaks of a church which runs in the hundreds or thousands....(and if 26 is a consistent number) then, yes...that is a legitimate concern.
So it is now fashionable to ridicule people being saved?
That
IS a straw-man...he did no such thing, he criticized a church for NOT seeing adequate numbers being saved.
He said his church could take over all the local churches in Dallas because they are so talented and he knows how to do it. really? Is that what we are all about?
Those statements were kind of lame....basically all 12 minutes of that little talk was kinda lame.
He said reformed people put God in a box
I didn't quite get that either.
and don't do envangelism, really since when?
Well, he qualified his statements with terms like "many" or "most" and "often" (he did this numerous times actually) this is why you cannot accuse him of a straw-man. He mentioned at the end that he had Calvinist friends who DO! evangelize....He also, in the same breath, rightly stated that his quantifiers would be selectively edited out....or in the case of these posts...ignored, as though he never said them. He seems to have been correct!! By refusing to acknowkedge that he qualified his criticisms...My Cal brethren here, ARE, in fact, attacking straw-men.
He claimed reformed pastors wear skinny jeans and think they are cool. Have you ever watched Young, he always wears skinny jeans and he thinks he is cool.
Agreed....and he was wearing annoyingly tight trousers (although not jeans) while he was saying that....it was rather ironic.
He said he knows Hebrew and Greek and theology but he never even spoke about anything from the Bible in his sermon excpet half of John 3:16 to refute reformed theology
Did you post the entire sermon? That was only one 12 minute segment I think. I do not know what other passages...if any, he might have used earlier....It seems to me he complained about selective editing....
and he didn't even get that right.
That is, of course, the crux of the entire Cal/Arm debate.
this guy is an embarassment.
Wouldn't be the Church I attended, no.
He's all about himself and bean counting as proof of success.
He did sound a little narcisisstic....bean counting, is decidedly not the sum total of success either, and he seems a little hung up on it...but, it DOES matter. He seems to have been complaining that many Reformed Churches are "growing" mainly through "sheep-stealing". If, as I would guess he was refering to some mega-church "golden-boy" of the movement which, only reached, an assumed 26 people, then he DOES have a point...at least about that one example anyway.
