Another example of the necessity of the "watch-dog" "ministry" that Apprising.org promotes.

I struggle to understand how some believers can justify the constant attacks and gossiping (clearly prohibited in Scripture) by saying they are being "discerning."

I listened to about 1/3rd of the second video and I found it sickening. He could have been attacking Cambellites or the RCC and I still would be repulsed by that.

He was trite, juvenile, and misleading. I would have a hard time respecting any leader with that kind of flippant yet arrogant attitude. We should expect better from our leaders.

When he shows himself with Joel osteen.....you know it cannot get much better.

His father used to be at Columbia, SC. Perhaps Jr. comes by it naturally.

We are commanded to expose and rebuke false teachers. Exposing false teachers and heretics (like Young and Osteen) is not gossip.

Shame on you, for criticizing the use of discernment and the attacking of false teachers!

People who fly high, far fall.

The disciples came to Jesus and said, "Hey, there's this guy over hear preaching, and he isn't schooled and associated like we are."

Jesus responded by stating, "Leave him alone..."

Young would have done a lot more good to leave the reformed alone and preach Christ.

I listened to James White mop the floor with him today:

http://www.aomin.org/aoblog/index.php?itemid=5128

Me too.(Or for the older folks. : I as well.)

James found his unerring mark. He is both fun and instructive to listen to.

How so many actually take him seriously is beyond me. But many do have itching ears. He does the most outrageous stunts yet condemns Calvinists (he can't even differentiate between them and hyper-Calvinists) and in due course burns his stawmen.

The ranks of anti-Calvinists ranters has certainly increased over time.

Bingo.

Except White doesn't condemn Calvinists, does he? Isn't he "Reformed" himself?

Mandy, did you watch the second video? You cannot be serious about not being appauled at Young and his rant. Remember this was a sermon.

Yea I watched it. What exactly are you appalled at?

Where do I start. He built up so many strawmen in his sermon to attack I cannot count how many. He ridiculed another church for only having 26 baptisms in a year while his church performed 2600. So it is now fashionable to ridicule people being saved? He said his church could take over all the local churches in Dallas because they are so talented and he knows how to do it. really? Is that what we are all about? He said reformed people put God in a box and don't do envangelism, really since when? He claimed reformed pastors wear skinny jeans and think they are cool. Have you ever watched Young, he always wears skinny jeans and he thinks he is cool. He said he knows Hebrew and Greek and theology but he never even spoke about anything from the Bible in his sermon excpet half of John 3:16 to refute reformed theology and he didn't even get that right. this guy is an embarassment. He's all about himself and bean counting as proof of success. I could go?

Ok I agree with you about all of that. But if the main subject was about anything else other than being against Calvinism would you be posting it?

With just three if you can....

He built up so many strawmen in his sermon to attack I cannot count how many.

I don't know that he threw out "countless" straw-men....there wasn't even enough depth to his little sermonette for that. I don't quite get his statement about putting God in a "box" really, as any Theology could be used for that purpose. But there were no "straw-men."

He ridiculed another church for only having 26 baptisms in a year while his church performed 2600.

He didn't name the "golden-boy" he spoke of....but depending on whether or not he speaks of a church which runs in the hundreds or thousands....(and if 26 is a consistent number) then, yes...that is a legitimate concern.

So it is now fashionable to ridicule people being saved?

That IS a straw-man...he did no such thing, he criticized a church for NOT seeing adequate numbers being saved.

He said his church could take over all the local churches in Dallas because they are so talented and he knows how to do it. really? Is that what we are all about?

Those statements were kind of lame....basically all 12 minutes of that little talk was kinda lame.

He said reformed people put God in a box

I didn't quite get that either.

and don't do envangelism, really since when?

Well, he qualified his statements with terms like "many" or "most" and "often" (he did this numerous times actually) this is why you cannot accuse him of a straw-man. He mentioned at the end that he had Calvinist friends who DO! evangelize....He also, in the same breath, rightly stated that his quantifiers would be selectively edited out....or in the case of these posts...ignored, as though he never said them. He seems to have been correct!! By refusing to acknowkedge that he qualified his criticisms...My Cal brethren here, ARE, in fact, attacking straw-men.

He claimed reformed pastors wear skinny jeans and think they are cool. Have you ever watched Young, he always wears skinny jeans and he thinks he is cool.

Agreed....and he was wearing annoyingly tight trousers (although not jeans) while he was saying that....it was rather ironic.

He said he knows Hebrew and Greek and theology but he never even spoke about anything from the Bible in his sermon excpet half of John 3:16 to refute reformed theology

Did you post the entire sermon? That was only one 12 minute segment I think. I do not know what other passages...if any, he might have used earlier....It seems to me he complained about selective editing....

and he didn't even get that right.

That is, of course, the crux of the entire Cal/Arm debate.

this guy is an embarassment.

Wouldn't be the Church I attended, no.

He's all about himself and bean counting as proof of success.

He did sound a little narcisisstic....bean counting, is decidedly not the sum total of success either, and he seems a little hung up on it...but, it DOES matter. He seems to have been complaining that many Reformed Churches are "growing" mainly through "sheep-stealing". If, as I would guess he was refering to some mega-church "golden-boy" of the movement which, only reached, an assumed 26 people, then he DOES have a point...at least about that one example anyway.
