RSV
But we are bound to give thanks to God always for you,
brethren beloved by the Lord, because God chose you from the beginning
to be saved, through sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the truth.
ESV
But we ought always to give thanks to God for you,
brothers beloved by the Lord, because God chose you as the firstfruits
to be saved, through sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the truth.
NRSV
But we must always give thanks to God for you
, brothers and sisters beloved by the Lord, because God chose you as the first fruits
for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and through belief in the truth.
Both the RSV and ESV change the noun in the inspired text to a verb to mistranslate the text. The NRSV is faithful to the inspired text grammatically. Name calling a version (feminist agenda based) for engaging in a well accepted translation choice is without merit.
All three versions certainly have their faults, but to think the NRSV is worse than the RSV is laughable nonsense. The recent change to the ESV incorporated the NRSV correction of Revelation 13:8.
