The problems some of our industries have had competing are due largely to greedy management and greedy unions, not to Nixon's foreign policy.

>>>>>Typical socialist mindset - if one can't discuss the footnoted facts just badmouth the person's character. <<<<<<<

I am talking about her personality, not character. And by the way, footnotes do not always indicate good scholarship, in fact sometimes there is an inverse correlation between the two.

Since so much has been said about Joe McCarthy in this thread, I'll leave this link for everyone's inspection. (Yes, it is a "John Birch Society" link.) Here's a sample of what is there:

Q. Was Joe McCarthy the only member of Congress critical of those whose policies had put 400 million Chinese into Communist slavery?

A. No, there were others who were equally disturbed. For instance, on January 30, 1949, one year before McCarthy's Wheeling speech, a young Congressman from Massachusetts deplored "the disasters befalling China and the United States" and declared that "it is of the utmost importance that we search out and spotlight those who must bear the responsibility for our present predicament." The Congressman placed a major part of the blame on "a sick Roosevelt," General George Marshall, and "our diplomats and their advisors, the Lattimores and the Fairbanks," and he concluded: "This is the tragic story of China whose freedom we once fought to preserve. What our young men had saved, our diplomats and our President have frittered away." The Congressman's name was John F. Kennedy.

From another source, I learned that McCarthy even dated two of JFK's sisters, one of which was Maria Shriver's mom. He was even in attendance at her wedding to Sargent Shriver.

McCarthy was a great leader - defending our country from all enemies, foreign and domestic...not ignoring them which seems to be the more acceptable method of leadership today.

Well, tootles everyone. I don't think I'll post any more on this fine and wonderful thread. And yes, I've got to get Ms. Coulter's book. With so many lefties crying about it, it must have some merit.

McCarthy was a drunk and a jerk who was censured by the U.S. Senate. For a Senator to be censured by his own colleagues requires a remarkable amount of misdeeds. McCarthy was one of the few senators in the history of the U.S., perhaps the only one, to be singled out for such severe criticism. After censure, he was no longer a factor in American politics. Good riddance.
