Paul Maxwell, a former Desiring God writer and the author of the book The Trauma of Doctrine, has announced he is no longer a Christian.

“What I really miss is connection with people,” Maxwell said on his Instagram feed. “What I’ve discovered is that I’m ready to connect again. And I’m kind of ready not to be angry anymore. I love you guys and I love all the friendships and support I’ve built here. And I think it’s important to say that I’m just not a Christian anymore, and it feels really good. I’m really happy.”

This guy departed the faith, maybe hopefully he will repent of that, but watching the last video shows he had no root in Christ, in the scripture, he even said he was hitting on emotional levels, not spiritual ones.

Mark 4:5-7

A reoccurring event is some well known professing Christian falls from exultation. They go out from us because they were not "of us." That is to say, not actually born anew. A tare. Some peddle God's word for money.

Another point is that if you listen to his "emotional video" he uses the term "I" constantly. He is the center of his viewpoint.

Let me add to our list of unknowns, why did He leave Christianity rather than leave Reformed Theology?

Disappointment with self-centered goals can lead to blaming God. Placing your eyes on the corrupt sinner who is Redeemed by Christ, but still morally flawed can lead to blaming God.
This person makes me sad, because he represents every Christian whose eyes have left Jesus and instead see the waves and feel the wind of the storm. Our brother is sinking and we act as though we have a theological answer that will explain his sinking when the truth is we must pray that Jesus will grab him and pick him up, then admonish him to keep his eyes on the Savior. Will you all covenant to pray for the brother who is sinking in despair and flaying out in desperation? Throw him a life preserver. Show him Christ once again.

John 6 is really good at explaining these things, that Jesus has the words of Eternal Life, that Jesus is who He says He is, and why some do not believe.

35 And Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst.

36 But I said to you that you have seen Me and yet do not believe.

37 All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will by no means cast out.

Paul Maxwell is a Ph.D. student at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, and philosophy professor at Moody Bible Institute

This guy must have been "Reformed" to write for John Piper, the 7 point Calvinist. He would have been counted as one of the "elect", and now he says that he no longer the believes the Bible or Its Gospel?

What becomes of "Reformed" teaching on Predestination to life?

This reminds me of another sad case of a "Reformed" pastor here in the UK, who came out as homosexual some 20 years ago, and is a proponent of their cause, Roy Clements - Wikipedia

Do these cases, and others, show that the P in Tulip is also not Biblical?

If he was really born again, he might "leave" Jesus, but Jesus will never leave him!
