I am only leaning....

No, I am not against Thompson. I just don't think that he will run.

It makes a lot more sense that you, as a Christian, would support someone like Thompson instead of someone like Guiliani.

I am only leaning. I was leaning towards Rudy but he would have to promise to support the Reagan platform, especially a constitutional amendment to end abortion.

I think that Fred Thompson is great on Law and Order on tv but he would be naturally more conservative than Rudy--however, both of them are dedicated to winning the war against Islamofascism. So you can say that I am leaning towards Thompson at this time. I don't think that I will have to lean towards Newt with Thompson around. And I do think that Thompson will run but he realizes that the campaign has started too early. The reason for the early start, in my opinion, is Democrat desperation that Hillary, their likely nominee, will lead to defeat, and it has been the Democrats who started campaigning for the most part. This has forced the GOP to follow suit. I think that Thompson is a true Reagan Republican.

There are very, very few Americans who don't support winning the war against al Qaeda. I just wish that the Bush administration had remained focused on doing so instead of being distracted by invading Iraq and the subsequent debacle there which has resulted in allowing the war against al Qaeda in Afghanistan to become a mess.

Then I guess Hillary Clinton and I agree on one thing. That doesn't exactly offset her advocacy of big government that I oppose.

Sen. Thompson announced he's thinking about it. He wants to see if anyone can "carry the ball" before he gets in the race.

Some of his supporters are tenuous McCain supporters. This should be interesting.

I hope he does. He will leave Mccain behind

Jeb Bush for his running mate that would draw Repubs out in record numbers. As well as keep me from voting other than repub.

It would create a fury among the liberal, democrats etc. They would not want another Bush in the White House.

The only way I will vote Republican in 2008 is for someone like Fred Thompson or Ron Paul to get the nomination. Never again will I vote (twice even) for a pseudo-conservative, an inept one at that.

I don't know why people keep saying that Bush is a conservative. Dan Quayle said in 2000 that compassionate conservatism was not conservative. So everyone has known since 2000 that Bush is a moderate.

By the same token, I do not understand why Jeb Bush should be on the ticket or even under consideration.

Fred Thompson is the closest person thus far to being a Reagan Republican. As we look at the 3 ball carriers so far, to use his football analogy, we see that Romney must be rejected for excessive wealth and Mormonism. McCain clearly is not a Reagan Republican, bashes Christians, and has ofter voted with the Democrats. Rudy, who has a good personality and is well-liked by the common Republican, has never promised to run on the Reagan platform although he wants America to win the war against terror (which may explain the Bush quiet help for Rudy).

One thing that makes Fred Thompson come under consideration is that he supports Bush on the war in Iraq. This plays well with mainline Republicans who still like Bush. Those Republicans who agree with the Democrats on the war are going to have to vote Democrat as there will be no concession to them ever. Fred Thompson still has time as it is the Democrats who are scrambling to take the nomination away from sure-loser Hillary.

Thompson is a candidate I can get behind...and not just because I'm a Law and Order fan. Although I do think that for many, that character will help his campaign. I like is conservative politics and views.

If Fred Thompson, and Chuck Hagel, and Newt Gingrich are waiting until the autumn to decide whether to run, then none of them will be running. This is the 2008 race, not the 1952 race. Waiting until the last minute to run doesn't work any more.

Nor do most Americans - thankfully.

No, it wouldn't. He would be too tied to his brother's already failed Iraq policy and failing Afghanistan policy.

I am afraid that Fred Thompson would turn out to be Bush - Part III.

The American people deserve better.

I wouldn't bet on it. As the Iraq situation deteroriates further, by this autumn the name "Bush" will not be a name anyone in America will want to share with George W. and no one will want to share a presidential ticket with any family member of George W.

Besides, neither Thompon nor J. Bush will be running in 2008.
