Aside from all of those running so far, and aside from my personal feelings, I think a person who has a child currently serving in the military would garner much support from all sorts of people, regardless of their affiliation. Even better if that child is or has served in Iraq/Afghanistan. I would not be surprised to see someone fitting this emerge later on.

As for myself, I will support Congressman Paul for the presidency, even though I thoroughly believe he will not be allowed the nomination by the "machine". My hope is that he will, at the least, bring to the forefront the concerns of true conservatives in the Republican debates. That is, if they allow him to participate.

It won't be any machine that stops Ron Paul but his ill-fitting clothes and his membership in the Republican Liberty Caucus that disavows the Reagan platfrom calling for a constitutional amendment to end abortion in 1980, 1984, 1988, 1992, 1996, 2000, and 2004. Plus Paul stands for the abolition of the death penalty, right out of the left-wing Democrat playbook.

So the Reagan Republicans still alive will stop Ron Paul. He will never win a single primary. The common man will stop him. Ron Paul also would be helped on foreign policy only by a US military defeat in Iraq. The majority of Republicans are still loyal to Bush on the war.

With the primary underway a year early, it is hardly too late for Fred Thompson, a natural fit for the Reagan wing of the GOP or so it seems at this time. Thompson also supports Bush on the war, endearing him to the rank and file Republicans.

I signed the petition also. Hope and pray that Fred runs. The other candidates don't light my fire and I cannot stand the thought of "Clinton II" (or would that be "III"?) coming to pass.

Supporting the debacle in Iraq won't endear anyone to even the average Republican by this autumn.

I disagree Ken. Supporting the failed attempts of politicians (Rep and Dem) to bring us to failure in Iraq will not win support of the average American, But any politician that will promise to get the politicians out of Iraq so the Military can win will. Let the Military do their job (kill people and break things). Once we have victory then we can do our nation building thing.

Anything short of victory in Iraq is failure and promising to bring our soldiers home as loosers is not going to win support for the Democrats.

I was travelling on a long trip to preach in Corpus Christi last Sunday (fyi, did you know that 4:30 comes twice a day?:laugh: ) and was listening to a commentary on the radio with a University of St. Thomas Poly Sci professor.

He stated that, a ticket with Giuliani as Pres. and Thompson as V.Pres would be undefeatable. That would pull from the north and the south.

I tend to think he is right, since I believe Giuliani is going to win anyway, but I am "wishing on a star" that Ron Paul or Tom Tancredo will have a very good showing. I don't know much about Thompson, but I would think he has to be more conservative than Giuliani, McCain, or Romney. We shall see.

I do not believe it will be a run away election for the Dems, unlike many folks.
