"Girly hats" for the Marines?

A change to the Marine Corps' uniform hats could leave hard-nosed Leathernecks looking a lot less macho.

According to the New York Post, President Obama's plan to create a "unisex" look for the Corps has officials on the verge of swapping out the Marines' iconic caps with a new hat that some have derided as so "girly" that they would make the French blush.

"We don't even have enough funding to buy bullets, and the DoD is pushing to spend $8 million on covers that look like women's hats!" one senior Marine source fumed to The Post. "The Marines deserve better. It makes them look ridiculous."

In the picture above, today's hats are on the pair to the left, the new ones on the pair to the right. They look more like Hitler's brown shirts' hats to me. That's probably on purpose.

Unisex Marines ?

Well why not ? He's fouled up everything else he's touched, why stop now ?

The worst part about it is I don't feel the republicans will put up anyone I could support. This zero guy is poison.

The Marines are well able to delay adoption (if any) of the new cover until after Obama leaves office.

Furhter, the proposed cover does look like the cover worn by the Marines before WW1.

On a more serious note than my last two posts, I wish they'd leave well enough alone. ("They" being a general term for anyone who tries to change the uniforms.) Recently, the Army switched from their dress greens to a blue uniform similar to the Marine blues (similar to the blues they had). It's very different to those of us who know better, but I've been asked twice while wearing mine if I was a Marine.

What I see is a move in the Army, Marine Corps, and Air Force to dress uniforms which are just that dress uniforms. Thus, the move to pre-WW1 blue for the Army. The Air Force has a proposed uniform modeled on the uniform worn by "Hap" Arnold. In this case the move is away from the "bus drivers" style of cover.

If they're going to do that, then why not go back to the campaign hat? Why the meter maid style cover?

FYI, for those of us who don't keep up with the movies.
The picture below is Peter Sellars as Inspector Clouseau in the uniform of the Paris Metropolitan Police, not the Foreign Legion.

The Legion kepi is the standard kepi of the French Army. Though, the Legion other ranks wears a white kepi.
Changed my mind ...

Not brown shirts' hat but ...
